We at the Africa Evidence Network (AEN) are proud of what we have achieved in 2024. We hope you have a safe and healthy holiday season as we send out our final #AENnewsletter of the year: https://lnkd.in/dmAFAd3k! Our highlight for 2024 is the launch of our new website and membership portal. To make its efforts to fight global poverty and promote economic growth more cost-effective, we also highlight the launch of a creative partnership, "Promoting Impact and Learning with Cost-Effectiveness Evidence (PILCEE)" by USAID led by the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA). In this month's #AENblog post, Siziwe Ngcwabe (BA Social work, MBA, MPM.) looks back on 2024 and emphasises AEN's significant accomplishments through unwavering efforts to advance evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across #Africa. We welcome two new individuals as part of the December #AENspotlight: 1. Prof Michael W. Donovan, the Director of International Partnerships at Penn State University, joined the AEN because he would love to be more connected to the Network after recently attending the Transforming Evidence Network (TEN) conference in Cape Town. 2. Serge N'Sapu, a PhD candidate at Coventry University, is happy to join the #AENmembership and this vibrant community of academics, decision-makers, and practitioners dedicated to evidence-based decision-making across #Africa. If you want to spotlight yourself, someone you know, or your organisation, let us know via info@africaevidencenetwork.org, and you could be featured in next month's #AENnewsletter. We keep you informed about academic journal articles, upcoming #evidence events, and recent #EIDM opportunities. We are enthusiastic and optimistic about the many interesting things 2025 has in store for us.

About us
The Africa Evidence Network (AEN) is a project of the Pan-African Collective for Evidence based in Johannesburg. Our team has provided the secretariat to the Africa Evidence Network since the Network’s formation in late 2012. This work has been unfunded except for the period January 2014 to December 2016 when it received funding from the UK’s Department for International Development as part of a grant to Build Capacity to Use Research Evidence (UJ-BCURE). The AEN is a not-for-profit project. We believe that power and knowledge for change is ultimately contained within communities, and that as such only together can evidence-informed decision-making become a reality in the continent. The AEN consists of over 4000 members from across the continent, crossing sectors and including a balanced membership across evidence producers, users and intermediaries. The Network aims to share information, increase understanding and raise awareness of evidence in order to develop and support an efficient and effective evidence community in Africa. In doing so, we aim to increase the use of evidence in decision-making in order to contribute to reductions in poverty and inequality across the continent.

Join us on 4 December for the second virtual meeting of the Community of Practice (CoP) on Citizen Engagement in Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (CE-EIDM) in the health sector: https://lnkd.in/d9Jibfu8. The goal of this #CoP is to reinforce the significance of citizen engagement in the formulation of health policies, filling a gap in #EIDM where research evidence has frequently been prioritised over input from citizens. Through this initiative, the World Health Organization, Cochrane and Africa Evidence Network (AEN) aim to establish a collaborative environment for #CoP participants to improve their ability to foster citizen involvement in health and health-related policy processes.
