George Newman (CEO) is founder and CEO of One Planet Education Network, LLC (OPEN), a mission-driven social enterprise that develops technology education programs and services - https://lnkd.in/dxjjiNUF. Newman has banded together a world-class team of educators, education technology consultants, and international technology organizations concentrating our collective talents to develop education programs and services that focus on sustainable community development and the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). OPEN joins students, professionals and communities in both the Global South and Global North to work together to address our major 21st and 22nd century global challenges. Our current programs key on eliminating hunger (increasing food security through regenerative agriculture programs and student research), and combating climate change through more sustainable farming practices and the use of precision IoT sensor network monitoring. OPEN is presently working with Ministries of Agriculture, Education Forestry/Environment, and Telecom authorities across Africa. We are also working with the UN’s ITU-D organization, NGOs, and have partnered with relevant ICT, Agriculture, and Forestry Departments in Universities in Africa and USA. OPEN now offers full service data-driven smart farming IoT network and AI/ML solutions and related education and training programs for universities and professionals. Our primary to secondary school students conduct citizen science-related research projects on sustainable farming, and using IoT sensors in school gardens learn the basics of data analytics and AI/ML. Newman has over 35 years of experience in the fields of information and Internet technologies and technology-based education program development. Newman has worked in wireless and broadband telecom, renewable energy and telecom regulation, tech market research, and in the early ‘90s served as a committee member at the Center for Technology, Policy, and Industrial Development at MIT Sloan School that consulted to the US Government creating strategies for commercializing the Internet. As our culture post summit, we are happy to be engaging in post summit collaborations. We were delighted to have been hosted by Makerere University CREEC Makerere for 2 days to discuss collaboration especially in the areas of innovation and research among others, with our newly launched Innovation Hub. Thanks to @Suzan Abbo and @Regina Nakawuki for the great work. Thanks for being the pioneers for collaboration with the Pilot International/WEFA Innovation hub.

Besides demonstrating a roadmap for Africa’s Socioeconomic transformation with our themes namely renewable energy, agriculture value chains, infrastructure revamping and mining as well as business support services, The Trans Africa Investment Summit 2024, concluded with an awards ceremony presided over by Nicholas Mukisa, PhD . He awarded a Renewable Energy Award to ALLGREEN ENERGY NV, Leadership Award to Kawsar Koodaruth and Innovation award to Nosayaba Evbuomwan, PhD . We congratulate all the awardees and encourage them to continue leading the transformation within their respective capacities.
