Empowering Bamboo Farmers in Uganda! 🌿 We are thrilled to announce that 51 members of the Nyarubungo Ward Bamboo Tree Growers from Mbarara City, Uganda, have completed a 12-day skills training programme in Bamboo Value Addition, Preservation, and Post-Harvest Handling! UIRI Bamboo Researchers transferred skills in bamboo value addition that enabled the trainees to produce lampshades, plate holders, key holders, trays, cups, and furniture. The Natural Resource Officer for Mbarara City, Mr. David Agaba, thanked the UIRI trainers for this initiative, because it is a significant step towards promoting sustainable bamboo farming practices, enhancing livelihoods, and contributing to Uganda's economic growth. During the Study Tour, the Senior Soldiers had the opportunity to explore the UIRI MMISDC's various facilities, including the Machining and Computer-Aided Design Facility, Production and Training Center, and Electronics Production Center. They also learned about the center's objectives, which include carrying out applied research, promoting value addition activities, and developing industry-relevant technical skills.
