In partnership with the University of Stirling, the HABIT (Harmful Algal Bloom Intelligent Twin) project will leverage cutting-edge satellite imagery, advanced drone technology, and predictive models to monitor and forecast blue-green algae outbreaks. These harmful algal blooms pose significant risks to biodiversity, water quality, and the livelihoods of communities depending on Lough Neagh. Central to the project is Active Maps. Active Maps consolidates data from diverse sources—satellites, drones, and in-situ sensors—into a single, user-friendly interface. This integration offers researchers, policymakers, and local stakeholders actionable insights to safeguard Lough Neagh’s ecosystems and proactively address environmental threats.
