Former Scottish Rugby Captain Rob Wainwright was back at it again last week with the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation Grand Tour! 🚲🚲 We were delighted to be able to support and welcome them on their Blairgowrie RFC stop-off with snacks and refreshments. 😋 ☕ Wainright and friends cycled more than 700 miles over 4 days to raise money for the Foundation set up Doddie Weir OBE. The foundation funds research to find a cure for motor neuron disease. Doddie Weir was a prominent rugby player, earning 61 caps for Scotland and representing the British and Irish Lions in 1997. He played for Melrose and Newcastle Falcons, winning championships with both clubs. In June 2017, he announced he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease, prompting him to advocate for research and support fellow sufferers. Later that year, he established the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, aiming for a world free of MND. The “5” in the foundation's name honors his playing number for his clubs and the jersey worn for Scotland. Blairgowrie upholsterer Jayne Strachan has created a unique armchair made from rugby shirts associated with Doddie’s remarkable career. It’s currently the subject of an online auction that will raise funds for the My Name5 Doddie Foundation.
