Alan Camp Architects as part of our 30 year celebrations have rebranded to ACA Studios. Who we are: We are an established, medium-sized housing and mixed-use practice based in central London, specialising in solving complex development challenges by brokering collaborative solutions. What we do: We are firmly based in all stages of project development, from feasibility to post-completion. We work with a varied client base including developers, housing associations and contractors. We have extensive experience in residential and mixed use projects, from single dwellings to large developments along with commercial, retail, community and education. We undertake masterplanning and the team has major projects experience. How we work: These days there are no “easy” projects: site constraints, funding, planning and public opinion challenges abound. At ACA Studios we make projects happen: bringing together clients, statutory authorities, construction professionals and the local community we broker collaborative solutions which balance the needs of all parties. As we rapidly approach topping out, only now is the immense scale of the Silverthorne Lane Bristol site revealing itself to the city. Great to see the Colt International Pressure Differential System taking shape at the North Kensington Gate development from City & Docklands. Many hours of discussion, coordinating and redesigning to help set precedents for safer tall buildings in the UK. Situated in close proximity to Grenfell Tower, there was an emphasis from everyone involved to 'future proof' this development where possible. The Stage 4 design progressed during a changing landscape between single and multi stair residential towers, in addition to the transition periods between BS9991 regulations. Now with pressurisation recognised within the new BS9991:2024, hopefully it will be more commonly utilised in buildings over 100m in the UK so we can catch up with the rest of the world. Our team at Avonmouth Street are making tremendous progress, with the student led housing scheme really starting to take shape. Our second scheme for Tribe Student Housing, the development comprises 226 student beds along with amenity space over 14 storeys, with commercial space on the basement and lower floors. RC frame has just two pours to go, the first elevations of brickwork are complete, and the internal fit out and show units are underway. This is a logistically challenging scheme which required extensive temporary works to enable the excavation of a double basement - a solution which enabled the early works to proceed efficiently and seamlessly. The development will transform the existing site with attractive new façades and landscaping, connecting the building to Newington Gardens and the surrounding area. Big policy update from RIBA, stating that all chartered architecture practices should be paying the London living wage if they are based in the capital. Businesses can be formally recognised for paying the London living wage by becoming an accredited living wage employer.
