🌟 Project Update: Nido Living Randwyck 🌟 We’re proud to share our recent work at Nido Randwyck, a new student living experience in Maastricht designed to exceed expectations in comfort, style, and functionality. Aligned with Nido’s core values of modern living and well-being, we approached this project with a mission to redefine student living in Europe 💡 . Every detail was designed with students in mind. Inspired by Maastricht’s vibrant culture, the interior features lively colors, a mural and custom partitions by a local artist, and open-plan layouts with private nooks – balancing interaction and personal space. Thoughtful additions like sustainable furnishings, accessible study spots, and a welcoming reception desk create an environment that fosters community and connection 🫶 . Our design philosophy extends to resident well-being. The fully equipped gym and private dining room support physical and social health, while cozy study areas meet the need for focused, adaptable learning spaces 🤓 . The feedback from students has been fantastic – with 5-star reviews praising the stylish yet functional studios and student-friendly features. I can’t believe it’s already been a week since The Class Foundation conference in Manchester—what an eventful one it was! This year, I had the pleasure of being involved as LOFT.uk’s partner launching our modular furniture system, Nestblok (inspired by research from The Property Marketing Strategists). What started as an experiment has been met with such overwhelmingly positive reception that it’s given us a huge boost to keep developing. I went home unable to sleep for a few nights, with my brain buzzing about what’s next and how we can continue supporting the sector 💡 I also really appreciated the inclusion of panel-style workshops in every tour. It meant that we began conversations around topics like affordability, wellbeing, blended living, gender equality, and tech a day before the main conference itself 🤓 One key takeaway for me was how conversations around wellbeing consistently highlighted the need for proper budget allocation. Operators and marketers seem to understand the importance, but this message still needs to reach investors. For example: Do you invest in refreshing a dated building (to improve residents' wellbeing), even if it’s fully occupied? Personally, I’m biased—I’d refurbish everything, as I genuinely believe in the value of living in a pleasant and functional environment. But still: Will investors see this value if the building sells regardless? 🤔 Among these discussions, I visited uhaus by Vita Student and University Academy 92 (UA92) with Homes for Students, where I experienced Nestblok in virtual reality at the Igloo! Uhaus was particularly inspiring, with features like the tallest rooftop bar in Manchester, a coworking area with proper acoustic solutions, a variety of seating options, and plenty of phone booths. It felt more comfortable and functional than some commercial coworking spaces I’ve seen. Those features are a huge selling point for BTR schemes, but I also think PBSA could learn a lot from them 👀 I also enjoyed the workshop at Uhaus, chaired by Dan Smith, which explored enhancing the residential living experience. One hot topic was the blending of BTR and PBSA models. Bart Sasim raised a thought-provoking question: Could a blended model benefit from a membership system where residents choose which amenities they want to use, rather than having an all-inclusive package? Different amenities appeal differently to students and young professionals, and although implementing such flexibility would pose challenges, I left thinking this idea is worth exploring further 💯 Finally, thank you to everyone who came to chat or give feedback (a special thanks to the Nido Living team for visiting Nestblok). I loved all the conversations and being surrounded by some of the best minds in the sector. In collaboration with LOFT.uk, we’ve created a system designed to maximise space, enhance personalisation, and improve resident well-being. To make sure we got it right, we hosted a focus group with students to hear their thoughts 💡 . 💬 “I like the corkboard because it stops the paint peeling when I stick things on the wall.” 💬 “The storage beside the bed and under the bed would be so useful.” 💬 “I love the idea of a reading light by your bed so you don’t need to use the main light.” 💬 “I think it’s important to have lots of sockets for all the things I need to charge.” .
