🌟 Employee Spotlight Alert! 🌟 This week, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on one of our newest team members – Sebastian Zielonka, who has joined us as a Senior Mechanical Engineer! Let’s get to know Sebastian a little better: Q1 Outside of work, what are some hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about? Astrophysics fascinates me, fueling my curiosity through reading and research. I balance this with hiking, which reconnects me with nature and improves fitness. Inspired by martial arts icons like Bruce Lee, I practice boxing for fitness, energy, and mental clarity. These hobbies keep me grounded and inspired. Q2 What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering? My curiosity for technology and passion for science, especially astrophysics, sparked my interest in engineering. School competitions honed my problem-solving skills, and my father's career as a mechanical engineer inspired me further. Early experiences as a CAD coordinator in Ireland and sustainable projects like heat export from data centers and Olympic venues reinforced my belief in engineering's creative and impactful potential. I’m driven by creating efficient, sustainable solutions and embracing technological challenges. Q3 If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I’m drawn to ancient, mystical sites that combine history with natural beauty. When my children are older, I dream of exploring Gunung Padang in Indonesia, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and ancient Aztec and Incan cities. These places offer a unique connection to history and nature. On World Sustainable Transport Day, we’re proud to spotlight one of AFEC's key projects: The Wayfinding Centre This transformative development repurposed a 30,000 sq ft factory and warehouse into an innovative mobility and transport training facility, thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, controlled environment for individuals with disabilities. More than just a facility, the centre serves as a vital bridge connecting the community, transport, and disability sectors, as well as government and academia - championing meaningful change and fostering greater inclusion. AFEC proudly oversaw this Design and Build project from concept to completion. Our role encompassed client collaboration, design team coordination, contractor communication, and rigorous on-site inspections to ensure seamless execution, high standards, and timely delivery. Scoring Goals for a Greater Cause! Last Friday, as part of our Movember initiative at AFEC, we took on CPAC Modular in an exciting 5-a-side football match. It was a fantastic turnout, with everyone showing great sportsmanship, skill, and enthusiasm on the pitch. The game was intense, with AFEC narrowly coming out on top with a 9-8 win in a close finish! ⚽ More importantly, the day was about raising awareness for Movember and men's health, a cause that matters deeply to all of us.
