Sampling Horticulture in Southern England ... Our Operators are hard at work in the fields across Europe and beyond. But closer to home, we recently measured the soil organic carbon stocks of a large horticultural company—The height of the specifically created beds wasn't an issue for our ATV. Soil is more than a growing medium; it’s one of the planet's most critical carbon sinks. In horticulture, soil health plays a pivotal role in productivity. To ensure it is there for the future, interest is growing in making these systems more sustainable. The jet lag hit hard this time but inspiring discussions and (re)connecting with great people are all that you need to pull through 💪 Last week’s Carbon accounting in Ag supply chains summit was great, thanks a lot for the great organisation Hanson Wade Group! It is a complex topic, with lots of intricacies. As we all know, the WRI is working hard on getting the GHGp guidance right. But speed is also of the essence here as we cannot try to perfection the protocol without starting to take action! It all boils back down to making things simple; thanks for putting this at the top of everyone’s mind Margaret Henry! It has to be simple to act on it, simple for farmers to get onboard and get rewarded for their hard effort and simple for making collaborations scale. I’m looking forward to the coming years, I’m hopeful seeing and being part of such rich action-oriented discussions. And what made me really happy to hear was Kelly Garrett’s statement that he does everything for efficiency, sustainability just happens to be an outcome of becoming more efficient! I really enjoyed connecting with so many new people, but especially seeing familiar faces and deepening the connection was amazing!
