About us
Alive is an award-winning UK charity enriching the lives of older people in care and their carers. We: • Engage older people creatively through meaningful activity sessions • Train and support care staff to enhance older people’s wellbeing and deliver outstanding care at every opportunity • Reduce older people’s social isolation by connecting them to their local communities • Speak up for the rights of older people in care to those with the power to improve their lives We're different to other activity providers because we enable older people to shape the content and direction of Alive sessions, which include the use of new technology, guided reminiscence, creative, energising and physical activities. We entertain but we're more than entertainers. We engage older people in meaningful ways using a variety of tools and techniques tried and tested over the last 10 years. "Alive activity sessions are proven to impact positively on older people in the expression of personal identity, enabling of personal choice, interaction with others and general well-being. Their training and mentoring is found to have contributed to positive changes in the culture of care and practice within the care settings". From a recent external evaluation of Alive's work by arts evaluation experts Willis Newson in collaboration with the University of the West of England. Our aim is to transform the residential care sector, so that older people’s mental, social and emotional wellbeing is prioritised alongside their physical care.

This is why we do what we do. ❤ In 2022, we had the honour of talking to some of the members at our Dementia Meeting Centres - groups for people living with dementia and their carers. The result were a series of emotive, impactful videos that amplify the voices, feelings and hearts of those we are so grateful to support. Without funding and support from our community, we wouldn't be able to run our centres. Thanks to Big Give, all donations towards our centres are being automatically doubled until midday 10 December. Please donate and make double the difference to the lives of people living with dementia. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/eb5JETjs #ChristmasChallenge #CharityFundraising #DementiaCharity #BigGive #PositiveChange #AliveActivities #BristolCharity

Loneliness and isolation are just some of the huge challenges that carers for people living with dementia face every day. Sharing experiences, worries, knowledge and friendship with others in the same situation can be enormously helpful. Filmed in 2022, we asked carers at our Dementia Meeting Centres why these support systems are so important to them. With donations to our centres being DOUBLED this week, see your donation make twice the difference to those affected by a diagnosis of dementia. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/eb5JETjs #ChristmasChallenge #CharityFundraising #DementiaCharity #BigGive #PositiveChange #AliveActivities #BristolCharity Big Give

"People will accept me as someone with dementia, but as someone who's quite a normal individual as well." ❤ Filmed back in 2022, we asked some of our members what our Dementia Meeting Centres mean to them. Offering a 'lifeline' to those living with dementia and their carers, all donations towards our Dementia Meeting Centres are being automatically DOUBLED this week thanks to Big Give. Please share and donate if you can. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/eb5JETjs #ChristmasChallenge #CharityFundraising #DementiaCharity #BigGive #PositiveChange #AliveActivities #BristolCharity

The #UKDC2024 in Coventry didn't disappoint. Inspiring, engaging, challenging, informing, and connecting were some of the many words we heard. Dr Jeremy Isaacs spoke on the second day of the mammoth challenge facing the NHS. Not only will there be a huge increase in the numbers of people living with dementia, but the severity of the dementia will also increase. Much debate followed, looking at language, environment, funding, caring, training. And of course our very own Nicola Taylor led a moving workshop of the Empathy Suit with Bristol Dementia Wellbeing Service and Brunelcare. What a fantastic way to show how partnership working can increase our impact. Team Alive rounded up the conference with Partnerships Manager, Georgina Densley and CEO, Isobel Jones speaking about love and dementia. Love should be at the centre of all we do: in arts and in care, we show and receive love. It was a moving way to finish the conference. Thank you to Dementia Community for, yet again, connecting us, inspiring us and challenging us. Let's hope we can get keep the congress going. We are looking forward to next year already! #DementiaCongress #DementiaConference #DementiaCare #EmpathySuit

A fantastic first day at the 18th Dementia Congress in Coventry. What an honour to hear, first-hand, how those who are affected by dementia are shaping their own dementia strategy and care in Scotland. It's always an inspiration to be amongst a group of passionate people dedicated to improving dementia care. Plus our very own Abi and Linda shared their work at the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity Sanctuary Square garden and have inspired others to start something similar. Looking forward to day two tomorrow! #UKDC2024 #DementiaCongress University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust Dementia Community
