The last 5 years in Animal Rising have been a wild ride, we've learnt so much and come such a long way, as an organisation and as individuals. It's hard to describe the intensity of our work, so much happens in a year! I had fun speaking at the International Animal Rights Conference about some of the key lessons we've learnt and challenges we've faced when shutting down all of McDonald's distribution centres, rescuing beagle puppies from an animal testing facility and disrupting the Grand National horse race after being infiltrated by the Daily Mail. You can see a short version of the talk below or click here for the full video: https://lnkd.in/gSuV88jF

The National Trust goes 50% plant-based! At their recent AGM, National Trust members voted decisively (over 57,000 in favour!) to make all on-site catering 50% plant-based—a major step forward in addressing the climate crisis, promoting ethical eating, and protecting biodiversity. This shift builds on the momentum of last year’s landmark decision by the RSPCA to move to 100% plant-based catering, and Chris Packham’s launch of the #PlantBased #Pledge, which encourages environmental organisations to commit to plant-based #menus. Supporting this trend, a recent study by Bryant Research and Plant-Based Universities highlight clear benefits of plant-based defaults, demonstrating substantial cost savings alongside meaningful environmental impact. It’s inspiring to see the UK’s largest charities and organisations making real strides toward a plant-based food system, especially at a time when the shift to a sustainable future is more urgent than ever. Last week, the RSPCA published a review of its RSPCA Assured scheme in response to our farm investigations released in June. They claim the scheme ‘operates effectively’ in ensuring animal welfare, and RSPCA CEO Chris Sherwood assures the public that ‘shoppers could be confident they were contributing to better welfare on farms’. Their review focuses on farms complying with their own standards, with an average of 1.6 noncompliances per farm. Our investigation into 37* randomly chosen farms found that every single one operated as a factory farm, with RSPCA standards shockingly low and animals suffering on every site. While our primary focus wasn’t on legal violations, we still uncovered 280 legal breaches, along with 94 additional breaches of #DEFRA codes of practice. You can explore the full dossier of evidence, including a farm-by-farm summary video, via the link here: https://lnkd.in/dpKB7ebv. This investigation wasn’t about cherry-picking or finding ‘a few bad apples’—the deplorable conditions on #RSPCA farms speak for themselves. The RSPCA’s review ignores our key concerns: ➡️ Across all the RSPCA Assured farms we visited, the standards constituting “higher welfare” were extremely low. Every single farm is a factory farm. ➡️ The RSPCA is misleading the public by promoting these factory farms as ‘higher welfare.’ ➡️ As a respected animal charity, the RSPCA legitimises factory farming by endorsing animal products. We support the need to protect the animals trapped in the animal farming system. This needs to be done whilst challenging the industry, not further entrenching the use of millions of animals on farms. We welcome some of the RSPCA’s other welfare work, such as the legal challenge they are taking with the The Humane League to the #UK government on the use of fast growing chicken breeds. Our stance that the RSPCA should end this scheme is increasingly mainstream, with over 60 animal organisations, including former RSPCA vice president Brian May, signing the open letter calling for the scheme to be dropped. Current RSPCA president Chris Packham has also called for the scheme’s suspension. We urge the RSPCA to stop legitimising animal farming and work towards a plant-based transition as the true ‘higher welfare’ option. The findings of the RSPCA's internal review were predictable and unsurprising, and in light of dozens of investigations exposing neglect and suffering, change nothing. We will be continuing our campaign to transform the RSPCA, and hope for the RSPCA join us and help lead the way to a kind, fairer future, for all animals. *We originally exposed 45 farms, all of which we had evidence of being RSPCA Assured. The RSPCA have said 8 of those are not currently RSPCA Assured so we have included 37 confirmed farms. M&S want shoppers to believe that the cow’s milk they sell comes from happy cows in green rolling pastures, but the reality tells a different story. Despite mounting pressure, the RSPCA continue to peddle the myth that they can assure the public of ‘wonderful living standards’ for the animals they purport to protect. Cross-movement efforts, including this investigation by Joey Carbstrong and his team, have exposed that the RSPCA Assured scheme can assure the public nothing. #EndRSPCAAssured #AnimalRising #ForAllLife #AnimalRights #AnimalFreedom #AnimalLover #RSPCAAssured #RSPCA #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRescue

Good news from RSPCA's Annual General Meeting! We have heard incredible news that the motion to transition the RSPCA’s internal catering to 100% plant-based has been officially approved! This motion was submitted during last year’s AGM by Animal Rising volunteers and will now be implemented at the RSPCA! At the same time, the RSPCA has once again decided to ignore the mounting evidence of suffering and cruelty under the Assured scheme and avoided addressing mounting evidence from multiple investigations by organisations like Animal Justice Project, Animal Aid, Animal Equality and Animal Rising. This could have been RSPCA's shining moment, to be outspoken in the fight for all animals. Instead, their silence is deafening. But there are thousands of people all over the UK who will continue to fight for animals at RSPCA Assures farms everywhere.

Is it time to reassess the basic morality of our meat production❓ This is the question that Shelagh Fogarty poses to listeners on LBC, as she discusses the widespread calls on the RSPCA to drop their Assured scheme - a food certification which has been shown to be ‘massively betraying the public’s trust’. Cross-movement investigations into the scheme have shown that this isn’t a case of one bad farm - the whole barrel is rotten. It’s time for the RSPCA to stand up for animals and drop the scheme. ‼️Join us at ANIMALRISING.ORG‼️ #EndRSPCAAssured

Why isn’t the RSPCA preventing cruelty to ALL animals? Today the story of Charlie, a pig we rescued from an RSPCA Assured factory farm, has been released in a video by BAFTA-winning director Alex Lockwood. Please watch and share Charlie’s story. 🗞️Press Exposes RSCPA Hypocrisy📣 It’s been a bad summer for the RSPCA defending their controversial Assured scheme, and things aren’t looking to get any easier. Last week a series of articles were released regarding the Assured scheme - including continued exposés from other brilliant campaign groups, and further coverage of the impact of our campaign for the RSPCA to drop the scheme. The pressure is building on the RSPCA to call an end to the Assured scheme, and for them to embrace a plant-based future, free from the exploitation of animals. 👉JOIN US - SIGN UP AT ANIMALRISING.ORG 👈 #AnimalRising #ForAllLife #AnimalRights #AnimalFreedom #AnimalLover #RSPCAAssured #RSPCA #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRescue
