A comment from Aoife's mummy, Eilish Flanagan: One of my biggest aims for Aoife's Charity has always been, and will always be - childhood cancer awareness, particularly Germ Cell Cancer in children. I don't want to scare parents, but I feel obliged to empower them. Raising childhood cancer awareness is actually quite hard to show tangibly as a charitable aim, but it is something Aoife's team work so hard at! I'm just going to leave Aoife's symptoms here *Constipation *Night Sweats *Mood changes *Repeated infections *Lumps and bumps *Bruising *Unexplained weight loss *My Own Excessive feeling something was seriously wrong Aoife's Constipation wasn't resolving with medication and time and time again, I was dubbed paranoid. If something isn't resolving with your child, it isn't normal. You know your kids best, don't let anyone make you feel otherwise I'm definitely not saying every child with Constipation has cancer. But it is a common sign/ symptom - so don't be scared to push for testing, rule something sinister in too early before it's too late. This thinking. This knowledge - would have saved my girl. Aoife - I remember this day, just after Christmas walking around the woods and playing in the park, such a happy time. Who knew what was awaiting us in just a few months time. Lily is 9 years old and currently in treatment for a wilms tumour, a solid tumour which effects the kidneys. Lily is amazing, as are her Mum, dad and brother. Lily has recently undergone a huge surgery to remove her tumour, taking a kidney with it. We want to make Christmas special for this family and alleviate a burden so the family can spend time together recovering from surgery. We'd love to raise £1,000 by lantern sponsorship. They'll be on display on 7th December at GOALS Southend, on our Firewalk night. We have 30 Lanterns at £35 each. With every penny going to Lily's family, to make their Christmas special this year. We'd like to say an absolutely massive thank you to Liz & the UK Railtours team for their absolutely massive cheque for an absolutely massive amount! 🤩 UK Railtours run a charity raffle, and Aoife's legacy was the lucky beneficiary of their most recent one. They presented Aoife's grandad Patrick Flanagan with this giant cheque at our recent Charity Veteran's Football Match. 🥰 They said, "UK Railtours have supported many charities over the years, all of which have been incredibly deserving and worthwhile. However, the story behind this family run charity and getting to know the people behind it made it stand out in our minds."
