This week, our Social Value Lead, Sasha Silk, attended two career fairs in Kent: Rainham School for Girls on Wednesday with Laura Downing, and The Lenham School on Thursday with Grace Poll. Grace, our Management Trainee, shared: "I really enjoyed my time at The Lenham School's careers fair, sharing insights into the construction industry and helping to break down some of the stigmas students had—especially among the girls. Growing up, I found my way into the industry through family experience, but I never had the opportunity to hear from external voices about the career possibilities in construction. It felt great to represent Apex and share the amazing opportunities they’ve given me to grow, study, and gain valuable experience. I hope Sasha and I inspired students to see the exciting potential of a career in construction!" #SocialValue #CareersInConstruction #NextGeneration

Yesterday, Caroline Gumble (Dr), CEO of the The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), returned to MidKent College to tour their newest training centres. This included a stop at the Retrofit Skills Training Facility that Apex had constructed earlier in the year. Caroline had previously visited the site during the construction phase, so it was a pleasure to have her back to see the finished article. As well as the tour, Steph welcomed the chance to chat with Caroline about the growth of professionals, social value and training opportunities alongside Lewis O'Callaghan, Richard Wilde, Beverley Lawrence and Helen Patel. Thank you to Beverley and Helen for inviting us to be a part of the meet and to Lewis and Richie for hosting - we look forward to reciprocating next year! #greenskills #retrofit #constructionskills #trainingfacility #newbuild #newbuildeducation

Did you spot our CEO Floortje Hoette on last night's Kent Tonight programme on KMTV? She was talking about the huge difference the The National Lottery Heritage Fund has made to The Lift - without their funding we wouldn't be about to start work on the restoration. The interview was in celebration of the National Lottery's 30th anniversary so a big 'happy birthday' to them! Link to the interview in the comments. #lotteryfunding #mediacoverage

A busy day out of the office today! I started the morning at the Constructing Excellence Kent , where Steph Harris and I had the privilege of presenting on behalf of Apex Contractors Limited. We shared our journey of turning social value from theory into meaningful practice. A huge thank you to Constructing Excellence for the opportunity to speak—we hope our discussion offered some valuable insights! In the afternoon, I headed over to Westvale Park in Horley to catch up with Chris Armstrong and Darren Wilson, who have achieved a major milestone on site with the support of CPC Interiors. Roof truss installation is now underway on the front elevation above the meeting and consultation rooms, while the back elevation trusses over the hall area were completed last week. Next up: brick and block work on the gable ends, felt and batten for the roof, and window installation. Exciting progress ahead! #constructingexcellencekent #socialvalue #construction #sitevisit

📢 EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 Apex Contractors Limited has been appointed as the principal contractor for the restoration of the Leas Lift. The tender process was led by Chair of the Leas Lift Build Committee Jo Streeter, project manager Luke Brown MRICS of AtkinsRéalis and Dom M., Senior Project Surveyor of B&M Construction Consultants. Jo Streeter said: “We are extremely excited to have reached this point in our restoration journey and are confident that we have found the right partner to deliver the project in Apex. “We were fortunate to receive several competitive tenders, which is why the process has taken a little longer than we anticipated. We wanted to be absolutely sure that as well as getting value for money – which is vital for our funders and supporters – we selected a company that understands what the Lift means to Folkestone.” Over the next three months, Apex will be working alongside the project team to prepare the site for construction. This will include finalising designs requiring contractor input, completing surveys now the building is fully vacant, obtaining licenses and approvals and clearing overgrown vegetation. Dan Hollis, Managing Director at Apex, said: “From the moment we had the opportunity to work on the Leas Lift restoration project, our whole team have been excited about being involved in bringing a local landmark with national importance back into public use. “Helping the Folkestone Leas Lift Company Charity and their passionate supporters restore the lift to its former glory, 140 years after it was first installed, aligns perfectly with our values. We are committed to working together and using the construction process itself as an opportunity to educate, inspire, engage and serve the local community. We can’t wait to get started!” Picture credit: Apex Contractors / The Imageworks Read the full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZM23Pie The National Lottery Heritage Fund Folkestone & Hythe District Council
