About us

Making extraordinary art accessible to all is at the heart of everything we do. Artichoke works with artists to invade public spaces. From London to Liverpool, Durham and Derry~Londonderry, we have produced ambitious public art in cities, the countryside and on coastlines around the UK. We have created some of the most celebrated outdoor art in recent times, including the UK’s light art biennial, Lumiere, The Sultan’s Elephant, Antony Gormley’s One & Other Fourth Plinth commission and PROCESSIONS, a mass participation artwork celebrating 100 years since some women won the right to vote.

  • The Big Give’s #ChristmasChallenge is NOW LIVE! 🎄🎁 🤲 Starting today, on #GivingTuesday, you’ll have 7 days to donate to our campaign. Every donation made during this week will be doubled whilst match funds last. We’re raising money for the third year of the Artichoke Summer School in Tower Hamlets. Over the course of a week in August 2024, local young people from low-income families took part in a free week-long programme of creative workshops led by multi-media artist Tasnim Mahdy. Watch the film to get a glimpse into the Summer School experience and hear from the team and participants about the value of creative workshops like these. For more information and to donate, visit the link in the caption ❤🔗 Thank you to our Champion Funder The Childhood Trust, and Pledge Funder Aldgate Connect BID, who are matching ALL DONATIONS during the week. 🎥 Filmed and edited by Rob Hill.

  • ✨ We’re thrilled to announce that we’re taking part in the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge! ✨ This week-long campaign is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people from low-income families, helping them unlock their creativity and build confidence through art. Every penny we raise will go directly toward funding the Artichoke Summer School next year — a free, week-long programme of creative workshops designed to inspire and empower local young people during the school holidays. The arts are so much more than just an outlet; they’re a lifeline. They foster self-expression, nurture talent, and give young people the tools to dream big. We believe every child deserves access to opportunities like this, regardless of their circumstances. 🎨 🤲 And here’s the best part: thanks to match funding from our Champion Funder, The Childhood Trust, and our Pledge Funder Aldgate Connect BID, every donation you make will be doubled, making your generosity go even further. The campaign goes live on #GivingTuesday and we will be receiving donations between 3 - 10 December. Can you help us reach our goal of £10,000? If you would like to donate during the campaign, please contact our Individuals and Trusts Manager Shawnique W., with your pledge. Once the campaign is live, we will get in touch with instructions on how you can make your donation. Please share the campaign with your networks – anyone who may be interested in having their donation doubled! 💬 🔗 Find out more via the link in the caption. 📸: Summer School, August 2024. • An adult and a child sitting at a table and enjoying a painting activity together. The child is focused on their work, holding a paintbrush, while the adult, wearing a colourful headscarf and blue apron, smiles warmly. Art supplies, including paints and brushes, are scattered on the table.
  • Take a look at our updated showreel! 🎥✨ Artichoke was founded in 2005 to bring The Sultan’s Elephant by Royale de Luxe to central London. For the first time, streets normally reserved for state occasions or sporting events were taken over by art. The Elephant changed the landscape for outdoor art forever and catapulted Artichoke into the public eye. We have continued to work with artists ever since, with the aim of producing unique, large-scale experiences that appeal to the widest possible audience. Our updated our showreel includes some of our more recent works, such as HERD, The Gallery, Babylon Gamelan and Lumiere. 👀 Take a look and let us know what you think in the comments! 🎥: Edited by Clara Carbajo. https://lnkd.in/eATWSmKD

"We’re going a step beyond to drive up standards as an employer."

In the top left, there is a "Living Wage Employer" badge, and in the bottom left, the text "livingwage.org.uk #LivingWageWeek" is visible. On the right, there's a yellow and green shape with the text "Go a Step Beyond."
  • Lumiere & EMG Solicitors | B Corp™ have been shortlisted for the Best Arts and Business Partnership for Lumiere’s BRILLIANT national commissioning scheme! 👏 🎉 Artichoke is committed to broadening the diversity of those working in the medium of light art, and the BRILLIANT national commissioning scheme aims to encourage creativity across the UK as well as highlighting brilliant ideas from people living in, or originally from, the North East. EMG Solicitors | B Corp™, a growing firm based in Durham, has been the key sponsor of BRILLIANT since 2017. Lumiere 2023 and the BRILLIANT open-call would not be possible without the support of EMG Solicitors | B Corp™, whose investment helped to support 5 artworks by aspiring artists. The winners of this year’s North East Culture Awards, held in partnership with Sunderland City Council and the University of Sunderland, will be revealed on November 28. • Three figures—a man and two children—are illuminated in front of a large, glowing door. The bottom left side of the door is lifted, revealing bright light from within. The scene is set in a dimly lit environment, which highlights the contrast between the dark surroundings and the door's radiant light. The mood is one of curiosity and wonder, as the children explore what lies beyond the glowing doorway.
