I am truly honored to be recognised among the most influential and inspirational women of Leeds at the stunning ribbon statue. This acknowledgment is not just a personal milestone but a reflection of the incredible community and support that surrounds me. To be included in such a remarkable group of women who are making a difference in our city is both humbling and inspiring. Each one of us brings unique perspectives and experiences, and together we are shaping a brighter future for Leeds. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—your encouragement fuels my passion to continue making a positive impact. Driving Efficiency and Growth through Strategic Leadership

I'm thrilled to share my journey with Media Trust as I learn the art of pitching compelling media stories to the press. It’s been an eye-opening experience, especially when it comes to understanding the barriers small Black organisations often face in capturing media attention. It's a fact that these organisations are less likely to attract the spotlight, despite the incredible work being done in our communities. However, I firmly believe that sharing positive news stories about our initiatives can significantly elevate a charity’s profile and amplify our impact. Through effective storytelling, we can showcase the transformative work we’re doing, inspire others, and ultimately drive change. I’m passionate about giving a voice to our stories and ensuring that they are heard loud and clear! Let’s continue to push for representation and celebrate the amazing contributions of small Black organistions. Together, we can make a difference! 💪🏾✨ #MediaTrust #Storytelling #RepresentationMatters #BlackOrganisations #CharityImpact #CommunityEmpowerment

🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You to Bethel United Church! 🌟 Today, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to Bethel United Church for their generous donation. Your support is not just helpful; it is transformative for our organisation and the community we serve. 🙏🏿 As many of you know, Black-led charities often face unique challenges when it comes to fundraising. Systemic barriers, limited access to traditional funding sources, and historical inequities can make it difficult for these organisations to thrive and make a meaningful impact. Despite these struggles, we remain committed to our mission — to uplift and empower our community. That’s why contributions like those from Bethel United Church are so vital. They enable us to continue our programs, support individuals and families in need, and foster positive change. Every pound raised is a step toward greater equity and empowerment. Together, we can break down barriers and create a brighter future for all. Thank you again, Bethel United Church, for your partnership and belief in our cause. Let’s continue to uplift our communities together! #ThankYou #BethelUnitedChurch #Charity #Fundraising #Equity #CommunityEmpowerment #community

  • Lindi is an exceptional team member. whom we value deeply such a pleasure working with this wonderful human

Meet Lindi from BLACK HEALTH INITIATIVE (BHI)! “I started volunteering here with the Fusion Cafe in October. I was looking for a charity to help as I had spare time, and I wanted to get into community projects. I had moved to Leeds about two years ago and I didn’t know much about the communities around the area. I wanted to find somewhere where I could help. Now I’m employed as an Outreach Worker. I speak to the community who utilise the projects that we have, and get to know what they need, or how we can develop the projects. We have a lunch club for elders and I make sure they have activities to do so they're not lonely or isolated at home. I’m also helping to organise an NHS blood drive. It's fascinating to hear stories of other people and how they grew up, the issues and problems that they're facing, and how we can help. Some people may not be aware of what we’re doing. They may see us around, but they don't really know what's going on. It’s my job to do the outreach to make sure they know that we are here, that we can help with a lot of things.” Black Health Initiative works with disadvantaged and marginalised communities across Leeds to promote equality of access to education, health and social care. Funding from Leeds Community Foundation has supported a range of their activities, including mental health work and support for the organisation’s strategic development.

  • 🌟 Exciting Times at the Black Music Festival! 🎶 I'm thrilled to share the incredible work that the Black Health Initiative Charity is doing by running the iconic Black Music Festival, a true gem in our community and Europe’s biggest free outdoor festival! This festival isn’t just an event; it’s a celebration of culture, music, and resilience—a rebellious brother to The Leeds West indian carnival, that paved the way for creativity and expression. Born from a need to unite voices and stories, the Black Music Festival has become a powerful platform for showcasing diverse musical talent while fostering community spirit. One of the most beautiful aspects of this festival is its commitment to accessibility. We pride ourselves on providing low-income families the chance to experience the joy of live music without the financial burden, creating unforgettable memories and connections within the community. However, organising an event of this scale comes with its challenges. That’s where sponsorship and community support become crucial. To keep the Black Music Festival alive and thriving, we desperately need the backing of local businesses, organisations, and individuals who believe in the power of music and community. Your support can help us continue to provide this vital platform for artists and families alike. This weekend shows the UK what community, diversity and inclusion truly is. We are so proud in Leeds and at BHI for what we have organised. Let’s work together to ensure that this celebration of culture and talent remains a vibrant part of our community for years to come. Join us in supporting the Black Music Festival, and let’s keep the beat alive! 🖤✊🏿 If you want to see how you can be involved for next year please email: admin@blackhealthinitative.org #BlackMusicFestival #CommunitySupport #LiveMusic #CulturalCelebration #BlackHealthInitiative #SponsorshipOpportunities #KeepTheBeatAlive

  • **Statement from the Black Health Initiative** In light of the recent riots and acts of violence instigated by far-right groups, the Black Health Initiative stands firmly against all forms of racism, hate, and violence. Our communities have witnessed firsthand the destructive impact of such actions, and we want to make it clear: racism is not tolerated in any form, and there is no place in our society for discrimination, Islamophobia, or any sort of prejudice. During this crisis, we urge our Black and brown communities to prioritize their safety while remaining vigilant. Here are some steps for staying safe: 1. **Stay Informed**: Keep updated on local news and community alerts to understand the situation in your area. 2. **Avoid Crowded Areas**: If protests escalate into violence, it is best to steer clear of such situations. 3. **Travel in Groups**: Whenever possible, go out with trusted friends or family members to ensure that you have support during any outings. 4. **Know Emergency Contacts**: Have important phone numbers saved and be familiar with nearby safe places, like community centers or police stations. We call upon our white allies to speak up against these acts of hatred. Your voice is a critical part of the solution. It is essential that everyone in our broader community stands united, denouncing violence and bigotry while advocating for justice and equality. Furthermore, workplaces must be aware of the increased anxiety and fear that ethnic minority employees may be experiencing during these tumultuous times. It is crucial for employers to be compassionate, understanding, and responsive to the mental health and well-being of all employees. Supporting one another is more important now than ever. In these challenging times, let us come together, standing strong as a unified front against racism and hatred. Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. **#NoToRacism #StandTogether #BlackHealthInitiative**
