🌊✨ Driving Action for Coral Reef Conservation ✨🌊 Earlier this year Margaux, Francis and Tom proudly supported the development of "A Guide for Integrating Coral Reefs into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs)" 🌍🐠 — in collaboration with Simon Harding. This essential guide helps countries prioritise #coralreefs in their biodiversity strategies, aligning efforts with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Why it matters: Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, supporting 25% of all known marine life, 🐟 fisheries, 🏝️ coastal protection, and 🌐 livelihoods for a billon people. Yet, they face growing threats that require #urgent, coordinated action. Since the release, the team has been actively supporting countries 🌍, including hosting an informal NBSAP roundtable at COP16 Colombia at the #ForCoral Pavilion. The event brought nations and organisations together 🤝 to better understand the #guide, share #experiences, and discuss the challenges coral reef nations face in integrating these ecosystems into their NBSAPs. 💡 To further illustrate the guide’s practical applications, three case studies were produced from French Overseas Territories 🇫🇷, Republic of Palau 🇵🇼 and Republic of Philippines 🇵🇭, showcasing how nations are #successfully incorporating coral reef conservation into their strategies. Round 2️⃣ of Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature (OCEAN) Grants Programme applications opens on 6 January 2025! 🎉 🌊 OCEAN provides support to locally-led projects that aim to deliver lasting change to the marine environment and coastal communities worldwide. The #OCEANgrants Programme as are looking to support to projects that are committed to creating lasting change in the marine environment and for the most vulnerable coastal communities 🐠 with a particular interest in projects that prioritise gender equality, disability and social inclusion. The Marine Mammals Management Toolkit has been published in Marine Policy! 🐋 We are pleased to share that Tom Dallison and Francis Staub, alongside colleagues from the Bermuda Marine Mammal Sanctuary and Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, have recently published the Marine Mammals Management Toolkit in Marine Policy! The Marine Mammals Management Toolkit, developed as part of the EU Ocean Governance 4 MPAs Marine Mammal Twinning project from 2020 to 2023, aimed strengthen the technical capacities of marine managers worldwide to effectively conserve marine mammals 🦭 This publication highlights the toolkit’s impact in guiding marine conservation efforts and supporting international commitments, including those under the  UN Biodiversity #GlobalBiodiversityFramework. 🌊 Expanding Ocean Education with Multilingual Video Captions 🌍 At the Living Oceans Foundation, we believe that a deeper understanding of coral reefs and mangrove ecosystems is essential to protecting these vital habitats. That’s why we’re working to make ocean science education accessible to people worldwide! We’re excited to share that our educational videos are now available with closed captions in Arabic, German, French, and Spanish. With YouTube’s auto-translate tool, captions are also accessible in 80+ languages, bringing critical information about coral reefs, mangroves, and conservation to diverse audiences around the globe.
