STORY OF THE WEEK "A Bridge of Allan-based sports facilities management specialist has hammered home its ambition to break into the local authority sector in Scotland, after winning a series of major contracts with councils south of the Border." Sports and Leisure Management Group (SLM) is the largest subsidiary of Castle View Corporate Holdings and is now the biggest operator of local-authority-owned swimming pools. When speaking about the growing number of closures amongst local authority-run sports and recreational facilities: “It’s tragic at a time like this when the health of the nation [is under scrutiny] and the youth issues that we have got. We should be trying to preserve these assets for the communities.” Read full story in Herald... ▶️ https://buff.ly/42xpR9n

STORY OF THE WEEK What a brilliant idea. Scottish lighting firm Blackmoon switches local charities on to a new source of energy-efficient illumination. “There are lots of Cat B fit-outs going on across the central belt of Scotland, where a workplace is completely re-designed to a client’s unique specifications, and often the first thing they do is rip out the lights and replace them with new ones. That’s where we step in. “This re-purposing initiative is our way of closing the loop, reducing resource consumption, lowering emissions and making a contribution to building a net zero future through our circular economy approach. "Energy-efficient light fittings benefit charities financially, but many can’t afford them. Now all they have to do is get in touch with us and we’ll see how we can assist!" Story of the week Slightly unusual but we were pleased to write this story for DM Hall in the week of Remembrance Day. Jim Churm, the father of DM Hall Director Michael, is 100 years and in his role as Navy Medic he landed on Sword Beach in Normandy three times over the course of D-Day and the day after. A remarkable story and well worth a read.

Story of the Week Earlier this week the Herald featured Greg Girard where he shared some great stories and also his ambitions for Dunoon-based CX Services Ltd. ❓ What is the most valuable lesson you have learned? “Nothing is impossible in business. There are always opportunities to fix things or make them better. People can give up in business and it can become very hard, but there is always a way. I’ve been on the edge of the precipice and have come away from it. Now when people come to me with a problem there is always a solution. It’s very rare that there isn’t a solution to keep a business going.” The fast-growing business, which offers services including direct mail, order fulfilment and call centre outsourcing, already counts the House of Bruar, Scottish Friendly, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society and Highland Broadband amongst its client base. 📰 You can read it in full here: https://buff.ly/48sixwN Or visit https://buff.ly/48MIIi5

Story of the Week “My electrical apprenticeship has been very challenging but also extremely rewarding, so this award is the icing on the cake and makes all the hard work worthwhile. “It was a huge surprise – but also a huge honour – to be selected from among my fellow apprentices, many of whom I know to be really talented professionals who have a great future in front of them. “There is no doubt that I owe this award to the continuing support of my employers, lecturers and trainers who have been endlessly patient with me, and to everyone whom I’ve had the pleasure to work with and learn from in recent years.” 💬 Scott Ahern, SJIB Apprentice of the Year 2024 Full story in this week's East Kilbride News or 👇 https://buff.ly/40CZXjN SELECT - Trade Association for Electrical Contracting Industry Scotland Edmundson Electrical Ltd
