110 years ago today, Khudadad Khan became the first Indian and first Muslim soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery in WW1. Prominent voices from politics, faith and community relations are now calling for greater awareness of the service of Black and Asian servicemen in the world wars – including teaching this history in schools – to help tackle racism and prejudice. Hong Kongers who have moved to Britain are struggling to find work that matches their skills & qualifications, according to new research today from British Future and the Welcoming Commitee for Hong Kongers. Our researchers spoke to accountants employed in kitchens and IT specialists working in warehouses. This is making it harder for these new migrants – who want to stay and make their lives in the UK – to cope with high living costs, and also deprives the UK economy of their full skills: https://lnkd.in/esVE2uJB We're also publishing a new guide for employers, explaining who the UK's 150,000 recently-arrived Hong Kongers are, their employment rights under the British National (Overseas) visa, and advice for welcoming them into the workforce: https://lnkd.in/ew9zaaS7

Great to discuss with the Immigration Minister Seema Malhotra FRSA the need for an integrated skills and immigration framework , leveraging the experience of providing advice to Governments in the Middle East. We also discussed the concerns of business about the cost of visas and the need for Government to vocalise the benefits of immigration. Published today: 'Restoring trust in polarised times: Immigration in the new parliament', reporting the latest findings from the British Future/ Ipsos UK Immigration Attitudes Tracker. Conducted straight after the general election, the report examines shifting public attitudes to immigration and asylum, including the differences in attitudes between Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem and Reform voters and what that means for the politics of immigration in the new parliament. The research also examines the role of immigration in the election and public priorities for the new government; public trust in the main political parties on immigration, and trust in leading politicians on the issue; public perceptions of immigration, including which flows people think make up most immigration to the UK; immigration numbers and attitudes to migration for different work roles, to study and to claim asylum.
