Saveways is set to open in Croydon, south London, on 1 February by hip-hop stars Krept & Konan, who promise to provide a 'professional and modern retail experience' that prioritises inclusivity and affordability for underrepresented communities. The wholesale supermarket boasts a staggering 15,000 square metre space specialising in global produce, meat counters, essential goods and more. A transformative project drummed up by the rap duo, created in partnership with entrepreneur and owner of Steakout, Kaysor Ali, the groundbreaking venture addresses a long-standing gap in the local grocery market. Though the 2021 UK Census reported over 257,000 residents of Black, Asian, and Mixed ethnic backgrounds across Croydon and Sutton - a figure that has undoubtedly grown - these communities remain underserved by small, under-resourced stores. Saveways aims to address longstanding challenges faced by ethnic communities by provide product variety, hygiene standards, parking, and fair pricing all under one roof - as well as creating over 30 jobs in the local area. Tailored to the rich diversity of Croydon and its surrounding areas, the superstore features several specialist counters for fresh halal meat and poultry, exotic fish, as well as an in-store bakery. TikTok has gone offline across the United States as of today, following the implementation of a ban-or-divest law targeting ByteDance. The shutdown continues despite the Biden administration’s earlier stance that enforcement was no longer being enforced. TikTok maintains that without firm guarantees, it cannot keep the apps running in the US, leaving millions of users and creators in limbo. The Eagerness Of Networking Have you ever been so eager to start in-person networking again for the new year that you: - Buy a ticket to a familiar event, - Put it in your calendar, - Plan your schedule so you make it on time, - Practiced your 30-second elevator pitch for the last 2 days - Rush to get ready and travel over 50 minutes to get there, - Step in the place ready for the meet and greet only to find nobody there and the bar staff looking at you like you're lost? Well this is me today... Got to the BYP Network New Year Networking event one week and 5 minutes early 😂. What a plonker. I was so sure it was today I didn't need to double check the date on the ticket... KMT Got my hair done at the weekend purposely to look half presentable and put on my good clothes to head out to the event lol. The shame! Well at least I know exactly where the venue is and have checked out the facilities for the community lol. We'll be alright here lol The bartender took pity and offered me a free drink to dampen my shame... What a ting! I'm staying for one just to style it out lol. At least I got my steps in today lol Same again, next week 🙈 Since we're on the topic of networking here's 4 tips to get the most out of it, especially if you're an introvert or ambivert: * Check you have the correct bloody date before you go lol * Go with a plan of what you aim to achieve. Are you after growing your circle, interested in a new role, looking for new clients, want to learn something new. Be clear about what you aim to get out of it, before you go. * Check the attendee list if you can, so you can work out who to look out for when you're there. You physically haven't got time to speak to each one, so plan to use your time effectively. * Sort out your LinkedIn profile before you go. At least have a decent headshot photo, and complete the about section and experience section, if nothing. Whoever you chat to that you found interesting ask to connect on LinkedIn. * Bonus: Follow up after the event. Don't just connect and disappear, say hi mention something you remember from the conversation, and ask for a catch up call/virtual coffee to learn more.
