We support children, young people and families impacted by cancer across the island of Ireland 💛

About us

Our vision is that no child should face cancer alone. Every week across the island of Ireland an average of 10 children and young people aged 0-24 years old will be diagnosed with cancer. Cancer Fund for Children is here to help, guide and support families through childhood cancer. Our services include individual support, group support and therapeutic short breaks for the whole family. Through this work we help to empower family members, so they feel better equipped to cope with the emotional impact of cancer. We support over 400 families and 800 children and young people every year. For more information about our services or to find out how your company can support us contact us on T: 028 9080 5599 / 01 562 1580 or email fundraising@cancerfundforchildren.com.

Did you know today marks the end of Children’s Grief Awareness Week? 💛 Navigating grief is never easy but it can be especially difficult as a young person. At Cancer Fund for Children, we offer bereavement services to children and young person we are supporting who become bereaved through cancer, giving them a safe space where they can explore their feelings and build connections with others who are going through something similar 🌼 We recently welcomed 11 young people whose parent had died to our 5 day #SayTheirName programme. The young people worked together to explore the impact of grief, using creative methods like puppets, art therapy and journaling to better understand the feelings, thoughts, physical changes and changes in family dynamic that had taken place in their lives. Young people were introduced to the phrase “Grief is as unique as a fingerprint” which helped them to understand that while they were connected in their experience, everyone’s individual thoughts and feelings were valid and deserving of space ✨ #ChildrensGriefAwarenessWeek #GriefExperience #TogetherThroughCancer

“When I was diagnosed with cancer in September 2022, my husband Ryan and I just kept looking at each other and asking, “What is actually going on?” I don’t smoke, rarely drink. I couldn’t believe it. I’m a very practical person. I don’t like things to be sugar-coated and my children are always my priority so I said, “Can you tell me, in no uncertain terms, what the worst-case scenario is because I have four children at home and I need to know, am I going to die?” Everything was just going through my head, the kids, the mortgage. I was worrying about everything.” – Seanna 💛 After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, Seanna went through intense treatment including surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Throughout her experience, her family were supported by Gareth, who provided a safe space for her children to process their emotions and build coping skills to deal with the impact cancer had on their lives 🌼 This Christmas, Seanna is sharing her story to encourage everyone to get behind our Santa Cause campaign, so we can be there for more families who need us ✨🎅 Read Seanna’s full story on our website! https://bit.ly/3ADQPkl #SantaCause #TogetherThroughCancer #FamilyStory #CancerDiagnosis

“In 2024, World Children's Day calls on adults to listen to the future. By listening to children, we can fulfil their right to self-expression, understand their ideas for a better world and include their priorities in our actions today.” – Unicef ✨ This World Children’s Day, we want to say a massive thank you to the children and young people involved in our youth engagement work through our Youth Engagement Groups and Young Ambassadors 🙌 These amazing representatives work together to articulate their experiences of cancer so that we can better serve the families who need us. They advocate for their peers, shape our services and raise awareness through their stories and we feel very privileged to have their voices guide our organisation 💛 #WorldChildrensDay #TogetherThroughCancer #CancerFundforChildren UNICEF UK
