On 19-20 March this year, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will hold a Replenishment Summit seeking funding support to 2030. This will be a crucial moment for protecting the health of children around the world. To date, Gavi has immunised a whole generation – over 1 billion children – and saved 18.8 million lives thanks to its success in distributing affordable vaccines. As a Gavi founder, UK support is instrumental. Especially at a time when investment in development, health and children is under threat. UNICEF UK research shows that UK Aid for children dropped by 56% between 2016 and 2022. This includes cuts to health funding, even as we emerged from a global pandemic. New investment in Gavi brings a critical opportunity to vaccinate more children, against more diseases, faster than ever before. Gavi remains one of the best buys in global health - expected to generate $100 billion in wider economic benefits to 2030. In March, the UK Government has a major opportunity to support proven interventions that deliver for children through investing in Gavi. Now is the time for the UK to choose to step up for children.

💬 We sat down with a headteacher at a primary school in Camden to find out more about the impact of embedding children’s rights in a school community. 🤝 With support from the Mayor of London, we've invested £1.4m so state-funded schools across London can access UNICEF UK's Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) programme. 🧡 It’s a key part of #LondonsInclusionCharter, a city-wide commitment for change for the benefit of young people to keep them safe, feeling like they belong, and to support them to thrive in school. ➡️ Find out more about the Charter: https://bit.ly/4gozKJV ➡️ Register for the #RRSA: https://bit.ly/3CGJcKM

  • Children’s futures are on the front page – where they belong. Thank you, First News, for shining a light on the urgent impact of the #climatecrisis on children’s education. UNICEF’s latest report underscores a stark reality: nearly a quarter of a billion children missed school last year because of the climate crisis. From #floods to #drought, climate change is a #childrights crisis – one that is denying children their right to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. By amplifying this critical issue, First News is giving young people the chance to learn about the challenges affecting children like them around the world - and giving them the power to speak up for change. We need urgent investment in climate-resilient education systems, so that every child, everywhere, can learn, no matter the challenges they face. For more information about the disruptive impact climate change had on children’s education in 2024, read here: https://lnkd.in/eDKAGkYP

  • “We are delivering those bracelets with a name tag and a phone number, the family name, so that if children are getting separated from their parents, it’s easier to catch up and to be able to reunite them with their parents.” As thousands of families continue to move to the north of Gaza, Jonathan Crickx, UNICEF State of Palestine Chief of Communication, explains how UNICEF and its partners are helping families to stay safe during this time.

  • We’re thrilled to share that UNICEF has received €227,208 from Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity after it announced the donation of all entry fees from the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Lions and Glass: The Lion for Change. Today, it’s International Day of Education and we’d like to thank players of People’s Postcode Lottery for raising more than £20 million since 2017 for UNICEF UK. The support has been crucial in enabling the charity to deliver its Education in Emergencies programme in East and Southern Africa which helps ensure children in crisis can continue to learn. Currently, there are an increasing number of crises that are impacting children’s access to education such as the growing digital divide, increasing inequality and the impacts of climate change. But with the help of funding awarded through Postcode Education Trust, we’ve been able to positively change the lives of many children and get them back to learning. Huge thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery
