Simon Stuttaford spoke this week at the International Nuclear Law Association (INLA) Congress 2024 in Warsaw, Poland. Simon Stuttaford delivered a presentation titled "Poland’s Energy Transition and the Potential Role of Advanced Nuclear Technologies" and his talk focused on "The International and European Legal Framework for the Development of ANT. Yesterday, Simon Stuttaford presented at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conference on Small Modular Reactors in Vienna, Austria, under the theme ‘A New Approach to Regulation’, which was included within Session 7.2 on “Regulatory Agility and New Approaches to Licensing SMRs”. He addressed key challenges in the current regulatory processes, with a focus on licensing (including pre-licensing). Simon also shared strategies to streamline and improve the current regulatory approach, with the aim to accelerate the adoption of these advanced reactors. Wczoraj uczestniczyliśmy w inaugracyjnym wydarzeniu „British-Polish Energy Mixer” w Ambasadzie Wielkiej Brytanii w Warszawie. Od lat uważnie śledzimy transformację energetyczną Wielkiej Brytanii. Jest to jeden z krajów, które dowodzą, iż możliwa i celowa jest transformacja energetyczna oparta jednocześnie o energetykę jądrową i źródła odnawialne. Jest to też kraj niewątpliwie bardzo zasłużony dla rozwoju technologii jądrowych, którego przemysł nieustannie oferuje ciekawe rozwiązania w tej dziedzinie. Bardzo cieszy nas możliwość nawiązania bliższych kontaktów z brytyjskimi specjalistami. Miło też było nam spotkać się z Maroof M., naszym kolegą z Castletown Law.

Maroof M. Andrew Renton and Eman Abuzeid from Castletown Law attended the World Utilities Congress in Abu Dhabi, held from 16-18 September. With COP28 commitments from over 20 nations to triple nuclear power capacity by 2050, nuclear energy was recognized as vital to achieving global net-zero targets and maintaining the 1.5-degree goal. The Global Leadership Panel with David Landon addressed key challenges such as project costs, safety, and efficiency, and explored the potential of SMRs and advanced nuclear technologies.   #netzeroneedsnuclear #uaenuclear #energyaction

Maroof M. was recently selected to attend and participate in a two-week course at the NEA ISNL (International School of Nuclear Law) organised by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency at the University of Montpellier. The course delved into all key facets of international law and regulation within the nuclear sector. A highlight was the visit to the ITER Organisation, where the intricate assembly of the fusion nuclear energy machine is shaping a future vision.
