But the fashion industry is a key contributor to environmental crises and often relies on labour exploitation to keep up with accelerating trend cycles and consumer demand. Latifah Browne is on a mission to change that. Her business, The Thrift Den, gives shoppers in Georgetown, Guyana an ethical alternative to buying from fast fashion brands and supports them to curate their own unique style on a budget. Research from Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) indicates that: ♻️Young adults show high entrepreneurial activity and are leading the charge toward sustainability-focused businesses. 💻The gender gap in technology entrepreneurship is narrowing, with women starting tech businesses at nearly the same rate as men. 👍Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs exhibit a more optimistic outlook and confidence in starting businesses compared to other demographics. Yet, entrepreneurs still face many challenges, such as access to finance, education and mentorship—all of which are crucial for business success. Women entrepreneurs face additional challenges due to deeply rooted sexist beliefs and biased systems that hold them back from achieving their full potential as business owners.
