At the end of last week we were assisting at the Oasis Community Learning Community Kitchen in Lambeth. What made this more special was the equipment that was used, was donated by The University of Law Professional Development as they were closing one of their kitchens and during an ESG Round Table event at the Churchill Group, we were able to facilitate the donation. Two clients in collaboration to help the community. It was an amazing experience, those attending where treated to breakfast and a hot drink, before entering the "kitchen" where they were able to select food that had been donated by local catering companies. Around 75 people attended on Friday with an average of 15/20 kg of food taken by each one!! There was a really mixture of people attending, those who spent the cold night before on the streets, to those struggling with the cost of living, to those just having a bad time but hoped for a brighter future. However, the sense of gratitude and community evident to see. Being part of a community, making friends and companions made it a bight and cheerful place. And for those who said that they felt the shame in asking for help, it was made easier as no one was judged and all made welcome. We recently welcomed Ben Coleman MIoL for a week-long work experience with us. After fulfilling 24 years in the Army, Ben is currently going through resettlement and reached out to us as he was keen to explore his career options in our sector. We were delighted with the opportunity to showcase what our sector has to offer for veterans and worked closely with Ben to tailor his experience so that it was useful and worthwhile. At the end of the week, we sat down with Ben to reflect on his experience which he described as eye opening, interesting, and knowledgeable.
