Yesterday, we issued a joint open letter to political parties urging the adoption of the six-point plan to unleash the potential of community pharmacy. This featured as part of the joint manifesto published back in March 2024. The CCA is a trade association representing large community pharmacy operators in England, Scotland and Wales.
About us
The Company Chemists' Association is the trade association representing the large pharmacy contractors across England, Scotland and Wales, who between them own and operate around 5,500 pharmacies, nearly half of the market. Our members are amongst some of the most recognisable brands in the high street. Today, the CCA has eight companies in membership. They are: Boots, LloydsPharmacy, Morrisons, Tesco, Rowlands Pharmacy, Superdrug, Asda and Well. We provide a forum for the large businesses engaged in community pharmacy to work together to help create an environment where pharmacy can flourish and providers compete in a fair and equitable way. We aim to: • Represent our members • Empower our members to understand the changing policy environment; and • Influence that policy environment. The CCA is formally represented on the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, Community Pharmacy Scotland and Community Pharmacy Wales, and on statutory local pharmaceutical representative bodies across the United Kingdom. The CCA is also one of four national pharmacy organisations that supports the All Party Pharmacy Group.

Community pharmacy could give 10 million more vaccinations each year if the sector was commissioned to deliver NHS vaccines like shingles, RSV and routine childhood immunisations, the Company Chemists' Association has said. This comes as the sector delivered an estimated 42 million Covid vaccinations between December 2020 and August 2024,. The report from the CCA also found that community pharmacies delivered more than half of the Covid vaccinations given to people from a Black/Black British, Asian/Asian British, Chinese, mixed or other ethnic background in spring 2024. This suggests community pharmacies are well placed to reach groups previously recorded as being hesitant about vaccinations, the CCA noted. In response to the report, an NHSE spokesperson told us: 'Community pharmacies are already playing a key role in delivering vital vaccines to people across the country - we commissioned community pharmacies to provide an enhanced MMR vaccine offer in some regions in response to rising measles rates and nearly 40 community pharmacies are becoming ‘early adopters’ to deliver the recently introduced NHS RSV vaccine. 'We want even more people to get their jabs and are working to improve uptake across all communities. Pharmacies are crucial to this as we move the focus of care from hospital to the community and we are committed to working with the sector as we reform the NHS to make it fit for the future.'
