🤖Tech and AI in Community Engagement Is AI an efficient assistant or a potential threat we should avoid? Can we use AI to create better engagement with our communities? At LDN Collective’s event ‘Tech and AI in Community Engagement’ last week, we explored the role of technology and AI in community engagement. This led to insightful and thought-provoking discussions, where everyone engaged and raised both their excitement and concerns about AI. Concept Culture was proud to support the event, alongside other members of the LDN Collective, including ECF, edge Urban Design, Commonplace, You See Media, Rumi Bose Ltd., and Tim Ashwin Consulting Limited. At the event, we also heard from tech and community engagement experts, including our Creative Director Tanisha Raffiuddin. A huge thank you to all the presenters for sharing their valuable insights and experiences: ⚫ Oliver Deed from ECF ⚫ Dorrian O'Neill from Commonplace   ⚫ Tiernan Mines from Hello Lamp Post  ⚫ Matt Rain from Digital Urban  ⚫ Nicola Rochfort from Grosvenor Watch the video below to hear Max Farrell and Tanisha reflect on the event and AI as a whole. 🎥 For a deeper dive, check out our latest blog post where we share key takeaways from the event. How to tell a good story? Last week, we delivered a fun and interactive workshop on how to tell memorable stories for our client, Orbit Architects, led by our Creative Director, Tanisha Raffiuddin. During the workshop we examined the importance of storytelling as a marketing and communication tool, introduced a storytelling framework for the team to apply to their projects, and identified the key information and visual assets that should be considered to tell impactful stories. Workshop Highlights: ⚫ What is a story, what makes a compelling story, and why storytelling can be the differentiator that sets you apart from your competitors and how it can differentiate online content from competitors. ⚫ Group discussion around the team’s favourite stories, identifying what made them memorable and analysing how some stories are structured around the ‘hero’s journey’. ⚫ Interactive group exercise, wherethe team worked in smaller groups to select a project they had worked on, identify the ‘hero’ of the story, brainstorm three potential storytelling narratives, determine the visual content required to support the narrative, and suggest cohesive methods for collecting and organising the information. A huge thank you to the brilliant Orbit team for their enthusiasm and engagement during the workshop. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and feel more confident about telling your stories 💡 Thank you for taking part - Philip Atkinson, Llinos Hughes, Prabjyot Singh, Natalie Vassiliadis, and the rest of the team  . 👩💻 Interested in building your team’s storytelling capabilities and elevating your digital communications? NLA Awards ✨ The NLA Awards celebrate projects of all scales, from community-led to large-scale mixed-use developments that contribute to a more sustainable and equitable London. This year’s awards were judged against the NLA’s ‘Six Pillars of Placemaking’. It was a most enjoyable afternoon connecting with new and old friends and hearing about the inspiring people and projects shaping London. Dining on long tables at the Guildhall felt like being at the Great Hall at Hogwarts. You could feel the history of the place and almost imagine the ghosts whizzing past you overhead! Thanks to the NLA crew for hosting another excellent event. Congratulations to all the winners, commendees, and nominees! #NLAwards24 #Placemaking #BuiltEnvironment

Community Engagement Lead at Social Life

Following Tuesday’s Tech and AI in Community Engagement event, and discussion of the fast-changing possibilities, I asked myself – which aspects of my job would I WANT to delegate to AI, and which do I love and will fight to keep? (Thank you LDN Collective / Max Farrell and ECF for hosting!) 👨👩👧👦  KEEP: Meeting people. Obviously. Hands down one of the best bits of the job. Hearing about people’s everyday life is easily as fascinating as interviewing the rich and famous. (I used to be a journalist – I’ve done both.) 💬  KEEP: Face-to-face conversations. So rewarding. A chance to connect, pull on threads and learn from the things that aren’t expressed verbally. 🕑  DELEGATE: Round-the-clock opportunities to engage. Not limited by time, budget, and the need to sleep, but an intelligent interface for everyone to engage when and where they want. 🖋 PROS & CONS: Transcribing. A tedious task in both my careers to date, but also a valuable part of the process. The space to consider things like tone of voice, and do a deep dive into the data. 🇪🇸 DELEGATE: Translating. My evening-class-level Spanish is nowhere near enough in this multicultural city. Anything that helps accessibility is a plus. 📩 DELEGATE: Getting people to come to events. Intelligent algorithms and effective social media. And ways of physically / practically helping them to attend. 🎓 KEEP: Strategising. Intellectually fulfilling. 📆 DELEGATE: Logistics. Coordinating diaries, getting permissions for street pop-ups… Would love to get that time back. 🏋♀️ DELEGATE: Lugging A0 exhibition boards and bags of refreshments to / from events. 📈 PROS & CONS: Data analysis. Time consuming. Sometimes headache inducing. An AI area becoming increasingly sophisticated. But there’s still something satisfying, and vitally important, about exploring the nuances of qualitative research. 🚶♀️ KEEP: Walking ethnographies, on-foot research, and the love of being in a place. 🎤 KEEP: Going out into places, communities, estates, high streets to engage. ☃ DELEGATE: (This week only!) Street surveys and events in rain / sleet / sub-zero temperatures. What about you? Slides are some of the thoughts put forward by the excellent speakers: Oliver Deed from ECF, Dorrian O'Neill from Commonplace, Tiernan Mines from Hello Lamp Post, Matt Rain from Digital Urban, Tanisha Raffiuddin from Concept Culture, and Nicola Rochfort from Grosvenor. #CommunityEngagement #DigitalEngagement Social Life

Can #AI be a tool for community engagement? This was the theme of yesterday's event organised by the LDN Collective at the Covent Garden Community Centre and the Seven Dials Club. While we all acknowledge the power and agency of #AI, there were some questions raised by the audience which are definitely food for thought... - Could using #AI in community engagement pose the risk of excluding those who are not digitally literate? Are we at risk of increasing inequalities even further? - Will governments be prepared to legislate the use of #AI at the same rapid pace of its development? - With communities already feeling that they can't trust authorities and developers, will #AI make things even worse? And don't get me wrong, I am all for the use of tech in making our lives easier and our world a better place, but there are things that need careful thought to ensure people are not affected in the process. Away from all seriousness, there were some great presentations from Commonplace, Hello Lamp Post, ECF, Digital Urban, Concept Culture and Grosvenor who are doing great work using tech and ai to develop innovative ways to do community engagement. #ai #communityengagement #london

🤖 AI & Tech in Community Engagement It was a pleasure to be a part of the fantastic event hosted by the LDN Collective yesterday exploring tech and AI in community engagement, chaired by their CEO Max Farrell. Concept Culture was invited to present our work on the Neasden Town Centre project as Place Branding Consultants for Brent Council, where the Community Engagement strategy was led by Rumi Bose, the Design Team led by Carlos Sanchez Dieguez from Sanchez Benton Architects, and Valerie Beirne FRSA FIPM was the Sustainability Consultant. The event began with an ‘open mic’ session where everyone shared their experiences of AI, followed by a series of insightful presentations from tech and community engagement experts and a panel discussion which raised thought-provoking questions about the many challenges and opportunities around the adoption of AI - warts and all. It was a pleasure to share the stage with the amazing panel: Oliver Deed from ECF, Dorrian O'Neill from Commonplace, Tiernan Mines from Hello Lamp Post, Matt Rain from Digital Urban, and Nicola Rochfort from Grosvenor. Watch this space for a special episode of the Collectively Speaking podcast coming soon...which captures the voices we heard from on the day. A huge thanks to the LDN Collective and the ECF team and Luke Power for organising another excellent event, and to Lawrence Barraclough from You See Media for capturing the event. #socialvalue #communityengagement #placebranding #tech #AI
