Helping drive the UK to a cleaner future
About us
Cornish Lithium is focused on exploring for lithium within the hot springs that naturally occur beneath the surface in and around Cornish granites, with the aim to create a new mining industry in Cornwall. The directors of Cornish Lithium have extensive mining industry and fundraising experience and have secured agreements with various holders of mineral rights in Cornwall to explore for, and to commercially develop, lithium bearing hot spring brines throughout areas considered to be highly prospective. The region has long been associated with tin and copper. Cornish Lithium, by undertaking one of the largest unified exploration projects in the history of Cornwall, sees the potential to move Cornish mining into the 21st century. Lithium is the lightest metal and one of the most chemically reactive. As the world becomes more environmentally conscious, lithium’s importance and demand is growing rapidly with increasing usage in batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems. With demand for lithium expected to increase rapidly for uses in modern technologies, the UK government has highlighted this strategic mineral as a metal of importance to UK industry. Goldman Sachs has described lithium as “the new gasoline” due to its ability to fuel a transformation in the automotive industry and to move the world towards a zero-emissions future, especially when combined with renewable power sources.

What an inspiring evening at the Young and Talented Cornwall's Awards Presentation! It was a privilege for us to attend this special event, presented by Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho KCVO OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall. This year, 24 exceptional young people in Cornwall, aged 14 to 23, were recognised for their outstanding achievements across a range of fields, from sports and music to STEM. Recipients will benefit from the All-Talent and Spirit of Trevithick (STEM) grants to help further hone their talents and unlock their full potential. At Cornish Lithium, we are particularly proud to sponsor the Spirit of Trevithick STEM Award, one that’s very close to our hearts. It’s so inspiring to see the next generation of innovators emerging from Cornwall — particularly in fields that will shape the future of clean energy and sustainable mining. 🌱 A special shout-out to Olivia Bennett, a recipient of the Spirit of Trevithick STEM Award, who completed an internship with us over the summer as part of our lithium in geothermal waters project. Olivia, an Environmental Geology student at Royal Holloway University of London, is passionate about sustainable mining and aims to pursue a Masters in Hydrogeology. Olivia’s enthusiasm and dedication to clean energy is truly inspiring and will help play a pivotal role in the UK’s sustainable future. Huge congratulations to all the award recipients! You are an inspiration, and we can’t wait to see the incredible things you’ll achieve in the future. 🙌 A big thank you to Rodda's Clotted Cream for hosting such a memorable event (the pasties and cream teas were a big hit!) And of course, we are incredibly proud to support this fantastic initiative to help nurture the next generation of talent in Cornwall. #CornwallYoungandTalented #STEM #SustainableMining #CleanEnergy #FutureLeaders #CornishLithium #NextGenTalent #Cornwall #Inspiration #SpiritOfTrevithick 📸 Toby Weller

We are incredibly proud to announce that our very own Kate DaSilva, General Counsel at Cornish Lithium, Sarah Magor, ESG Manager for our Trelavour Hard Rock Project and Mark Harris, Senior Process Engineer, have been accepted as mentors in Innovate UK's mentoring programme for Women Innovators in Foundation Industries (WINFI) as part of a partnership with STEMAZING and the Transforming Foundation Industries (TFI) Challenge and will be trained under the scheme to mentor junior women in foundation industries! On this huge achievement, Kate said "I'm honoured to be part of the UKRI Transforming Foundation Industries Challenge, supporting the UK's clean growth and net zero goals by 2050. I'm excited to help address gender imbalance in leadership, foster career growth, and build a supportive network for women and allies in the foundation industries." Sarah said, "While my roles may have changed over time in my career I remain a scientist at heart and I've always been passionate about supporting STEM activities. I'm excited to join the STEMazing community and have this opportunity to mentor and hopefully inspire the next generation as others have helped me in the past." And Mark said, "Without doubt it is an honour to be identified and selected as an ally for women who need help with career growth in a male dominated industry. In this early stage, I can appreciate the benefits that will be on offer to both mentee and mentor. I expect I will have a lot to learn, but I am excited to be able to play a part in such positive and inclusive project." Congratulations, Kate, Sarah and Mark, on this well-deserved recognition and opportunity - we are so excited to see you both continue to thrive and inspire in your career! #WomenInBusiness #CornishLithium #InnovateUK #WINFI #STEMAZING #Netzero #TransformingIndustriesChallenge #STEM
As part of the government’s strategy and commitment to clean growth and net zero carbon emissions by 2050, UKRI’s £66m Transforming Foundation Industries (TFI) Challenge, delivered by Innovate UK, EPSRC and ESRC brings together the metals, glass, paper, ceramics, cement and bulk chemical industries to address environmental impact and global competitiveness. The TFI Challenge are partnering with STEMAZING to launch a mentoring programme for Women Innovators in Foundation Industries (WINFI), designed to foster career growth, increase confidence, and build lasting networks for women and allies within the foundation industries. This programme is tailored to address the current gender imbalance in leadership roles and create a supportive talent pipeline. And we have launched! 🚀 STEMAZING are super excited to be starting this new mentoring programme, with the training for the mentors already in progress!!! Mentoring will start next month. Mentoring is shown to be a key enabler of retention, progression and promotion, which is particularly important for women in STEM, so we are very happy to be supporting this new initiative. We were so proud to attend the Cornwall Community Foundation's 20th Anniversary celebration at the beautiful Truro Cathedral yesterday. The event was a powerful reflection on two decades of CCF’s exceptional work in supporting communities across Cornwall! We’ve had the privilege of partnering with CCF to provide the Cornish Lithium Community Fund, which supports local projects focused on skill development, heritage preservation, sustainability, and improving community wellbeing. It was truly inspiring to meet the organisations benefiting from this work and to see the meaningful impact they are making in their communities. Some of our favourite moments from the celebration included: - Contributing to CCF’s Time Capsule, sharing our vision for Cornwall’s future, to be opened in 2044. - Enjoying moving performances from CCF grant recipients, including a song by talented Cornish singer-songwriter Kitty Crocker and a heartfelt performance of "It’s Okay to Be Different" by Drama Express. - Celebrating with a beautifully crafted anniversary cake, of course! Congratulations to CCF on an incredible 20 years of making a huge difference! A brilliant morning on Thursday at the Great South West Cornwall Roadshow with Cornwall Chamber of Commerce at The Alverton Hotel, discussing a topic that’s close to our hearts at Cornish Lithium – the importance of amplifying our voice in the South West to the UK government so that the incredible potential of our region is recognised and receives the vital funding that it deserves. As a proud Cornish company, founded by Jeremy Wrathall, who began his career at Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter, we’re on a mission to revitalise Cornwall’s mining industry. Not just to honour our heritage, but to create well-paid, long-term jobs for locals while securing our own domestic source of lithium in the UK, which is crucial as we move towards the energy transition. Karl Tucker, Chair of Great South West, captured it perfectly: "The Great South West’s rich deposits of critical minerals are vital to both regional growth and the UK’s mineral security. As demand for these minerals rises globally, our region is positioned to lead in sustainable extraction, fuelling economic resilience and supporting the green industrial revolution." Thank you for organising the event Great South West, it was great to be part of these insightful conversations.
