CPA UK's mission is to strengthen parliamentary democracy. It is the UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the professional membership organisation linking all members of parliaments across the Commonwealth. CPA UK undertakes international parliamentary outreach through parliamentary strengthening and parliamentary diplomacy activities involving MPs and peers from the UK Parliament. Orphanage trafficking is the recruitment of children to institutions to exploit them or make a profit. Yesterday, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK) held a roundtable with parliamentarians and experts from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, OSCE and Griffith University to share knowledge about this type of modern slavery.

Last night at the #LegislativeStrengtheningSeminar around 20 Commonwealth MPs from 13 parliaments signed an open letter to their heads of government, warning that nations are falling short of targets to eradicate forced labour and achieve gender equality by 2030, ahead of their meeting at #CHOGM today. In Day 3 of the #LegislativeStrengtheningSeminar delegates travelled to the London Borough of Newham to learn about their Domestic Abuse Strategy and how national laws impact local administrations. Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz, encouraged delegates to continue fighting for gender equality. She warned about the rise of socially regressive attitudes among young people, adding that newer technologies like social media have provided a platform for gender-based violence to grow.
