  • It’s been a busy time for DYW North Highland! Here are just some of our highlights from the month: The Venture North team delivered engaging sessions to Travel and Tourism students at Thurso and Wick High Schools. The sessions explored the role of Venture North, marketing strategies, relationship-building in tourism, setting SMART goals, and the latest industry trends, offering students a comprehensive insight into the sector. Imenco hosted senior Graphic Communication pupils from Wick High School for site visits to their Wick base. The students had a fantastic opportunity to see how Imenco’s cutting-edge projects progress from initial design to manufacturing and pressure testing, demonstrating how their classroom Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills apply to real-world engineering. Fionnadh Carroll from Skills Development Scotland visited Thurso and Wick High Schools, and delivered a dynamic workshops for pupils, including the interactive Classroom Clash session—where students competed in mini-games based on real-life career paths—and the Lego Renewables session, which introduced students to the green sector and renewable energy. Ellie Lamont from Mackays Hotel in Wick delivered the WorldHost Training Course to nine students from the Travel and Tourism and Hospitality classes at Thurso High School, equipping them with valuable customer service skills for their future careers. Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who continue to inspire our young people, broadening their horizons and showcasing the incredible possibilities available as they prepare to enter the world of work. • Last week, Modern Studies students at Wick High School had an exciting opportunity to meet Jamie Stone, Liberal Democrat MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross. Jamie shared his journey into politics and gave a fascinating overview of the variety in his weekly schedule. The students came prepared with thoughtful questions, engaging in a lively discussion during both the main session and an informal Q&A. This was a fantastic chance for pupils to gain a deeper understanding of the highs, challenges, and realities of a career in politics. Who knows – we may have met some future leaders in the making! 👏 A big thank you to Jamie Stone for taking the time to inspire our next generation of changemakers!

  • A huge shout out to Scrabster Harbour Trust for the generous sponsorship of our Summit to Success programme. Earlier this month, twelve incredible young people from Caithness and Sutherland embarked on a weekend of outdoor adventure in the Cairngorms, building confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills that will help shape their futures. From canoeing and high ropes to a bungee jump over the River Garry, their resilience and teamwork shone through. We’re incredibly proud of each participant for pushing their limits and growing in ways that will serve them in their future careers. A massive thank you to everyone involved, especially our volunteers and mentors. This opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Scrabster Harbour Trust. Who's commitment to investing in young people is making a lasting impact on our region and helping inspire the next generation. Read more about the weekend: https://lnkd.in/eu8Hc69F

  • Fantastic coverage in today’s John O’Groat Journal, highlighting the outstanding achievements of DYW North Highland this year! From Sheriff Court to Outer Space, we've delivered over 400 events and activities for young people in Caithness and Sutherland during the 2023/24 financial year. We certainly think that’s a reason to celebrate! 🎉 https://lnkd.in/eqVpXGGM
