According to the World Green Building Council, 39% of annual global CO2 emissions are directly attributable to the built environment, with #cement alone accounting for almost 8%. The need for lower-carbon solutions has never been greater.    This demonstrator project delivered by a consortium of industry experts, led by John Sisk & Son Ltd, is another step closer to bringing scalable, low-carbon cement to the #construction industry.    The project marks the first application in the UK of Ecocem's new low-carbon concrete technology, ACT— a breakthrough cement technology combining a range of technical innovations with the use of widely available low-carbon ingredients to decarbonise the production of cement.     This funding from Innovate UK is a great example of how governments can take the lead in scaling innovation and enabling #decarbonisation. 

A new report by Carbon Market Watch and WWF reveals inefficiencies in the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS) and emphasises the need for the Innovation Fund to support a wider range of decarbonisation solutions for the cement industry, beyond just CCUS. The report recommends allocating more of the fund’s budget to technologies that reduce clinker consumption and improve material efficiency. ACT, our low-carbon cement technology, addresses these needs by replacing clinker with a range of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs), cutting CO2 emissions by 70% compared to traditional cement. ACT also enhances SCM efficiency, reduces energy use, and is globally scalable with minimal changes to existing cement plant infrastructure or workplace practices. Ready for the answer? According to U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the top four cement-producing states in 2023 were Texas (TX), Missouri (MO), California (CA), and Florida (FL) 🌎 Together these states accounted for approximately 43% of the country's total #cement production. At Ecocem, as we begin to expand into the United States, we are focusing our efforts on key regions of #NorthAmerica where our scalable low-carbon cement technology, ACT, can make a significant impact. ACT not only reduces energy usage, it requires minimal changes to current manufacturing processes.
