  • Another benefit of the EMC? A Christmas work-do! 🎄🎉😂 Being freelancers, sole-traders or self-employed can be pretty lonely, especially when it comes to the festive season! But this year was a little different as we got together as a collective (well, minus Dave Howard but he was there in spirit 🥰) to celebrate the first year of EMC and consider our plans for 2025! And what better place to meet than the very festive Scotsman Hotel 🎄 We look forward to sharing our 2025 plans with you over the coming weeks and months. And who knows, maybe next year we'll run our first EMC Christmas party, where you'd all be very welcome! 🤩 Jennifer Cadger Donna Green Amy Canfield #EdinburghMarketingCollective #EMC #Christmas

  • Are you looking to 2025 yet? If that seems a little scary, here are 5 simple questions to ask yourself (and they'll help to kickstart your marketing planning for 2025...) 🤩 1. Who are my ideal customers and where will I find them? (Hint: if you’re not sure, ask your existing customers.) 2. What are my 3 marketing priorities for 2025? (Hint: choose priorities that are realistic and align with your overall business goals. Consider their purpose and objectives.) 3. How much time do each of these priorities need? (Hint: try to spread delivery throughout the year and add some contingency.) 4. What resources do I have available? (Hint: consider internal and external options, look at what technology and expertise you may need.) 5. What budget do I have available? (Hint: up to 10% of turnover has been a traditional rule of thumb for marketing spend but in the current climate, 3-5% is perhaps more realistic.) Need some help with your marketing plan for 2025? Reach out to Jennifer Cadger in the Collective. #EdinburghMarketingCollective #EMC #MarketingPlanning

  • 5 questions to ask yourself when reviewing your 2024 marketing… ➡ What marketing activity worked well* (and why)? ➡ What marketing activity didn’t work well* (and why)? ➡ What’s the percentage split between your new and existing (repeat) customers (and is that a change from 2023)? ➡ What’s the percentage split between the sales of all your products and/or services (and is that a change from 2023)? ➡ How could you develop your marketing in 2025 (top 3 priorities)? By asking these 5 questions you can kickstart your strategic thinking and marketing planning for 2025. They’ll help you to identify successes (or learnings!), opportunities, gaps, product or service developments and encourage some reflection. Don’t be afraid to make changes to your marketing and adapt for 2025. Try to incorporate some analytics or metrics into your responses - that way your decisions are evidence-based and you can compare future results. * ’well’ is subjective but variables could include increased sales, more enquiries, more online engagement, increased website traffic etc… Need some help with reviewing or planning your marketing? • Yesterday we had the pleasure of running an event for the Scottish members of The Society of Garden Designers (SGD) , at the Scottish Arts Club. This private, in-person and bespoke event supported members with continued professional development (CPD). The five of us from the collective provided the members with practical tips, ideas and guidance on how to develop and grow (pardon the pun!) a garden design business. The Scottish members were so engaging and shown great interest in each of our presentations. At the end of the day, they expressed how inspired they were to start marketing their business using the information we provided. Thank you to our speakers for their time Jennifer Cadger , Donna Green , Amy Canfield , Sam Etherington , Dympna McKenna

  • I apologise in advance for mentioning the C word so early however, many of my clients have asked me for advice on Christmas content ideas. Seeing as the Christmas season is just around the corner, I thought I would give you my top three content ideas to use in the lead up to Christmas. Run a competition/ giveaway - This is the season of giving, right? Why not host a Christmas competition or giveaway to your loyal customers as a thank you for all their support throughout the year. Everyone loves the excitement of winning a free product/ service and who better to give to than your customers? Not only will this build stronger relationships between you and your customers but you’ll also see an increase in your engagement online. Offer a Christmas Day discount - Now hear me out… Not many people will be working on Christmas day and how do you kill time between opening presents in the morning and Christmas dinner in the early afternoon? Scroll through social media! What better time to catch someone who has probably been given money and waiting for time to pass. According to The New York Times, sales on Christmas day increase by 12.7% so why not try out a Christmas Day discount. Share your Christmas ‘Must Haves’ - Buying gifts for your loved ones can be stressful at times. Use this time to inspire your followers with a list of the gifts you would buy for friends and family. Your followers will gain your trust when they see you recommending Christmas presents. This is also a great time to slip in any products/ services of your own! If you have other content ideas that you’re going to use, share them in the comments below… The more the merrier!
