Our projects are not always relating to school buildings, roofs and refurbishments, as seen here at Chiltern Hills Academy. This project includes a new tarmac roadway, retaining wall, new access steps to their football and rugby pitches, as well as a step-free access way too. It’s all progressing really well as shown in these initial photos, despite the weather challenges we have faced. Our next team member that we'd like to introduce is Reza Bitaraf BSc (Hons) MRICS, Chartered Building Surveyor at Education CP. Many of you will have already met Reza, he is involved with several projects currently progressing at different schools thanks to his project management background, and is regularly onsite to see the work first hand. Reza joined us in October 2022 and became a Chartered Building Surveyor in June 2024. He has a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying and several years experience from working previously at an independent practice specialising in residential planning, building regulations, defect diagnosis and other survey related tasks. Now focused on the education sector, Reza enjoys working closely with both small single schools and large multi-academy trusts, making a positive impact on the school environments for the children to benefit from. A summer project we enjoyed working on was a newly refurbished Modern Foreign Languages block for Ousedale School in Newport Pagnell. It consisted of the refurbishment of 7 classrooms, 2 corridors, 2 stairwells and 2 toilet blocks, and everything was completed in time for the start of the Autumn term. We stripped everything back so we could put in new suspended ceilings and upgrades to many of their mechanical and electrical systems. We then finished off the different areas in the consistent style to additional projects we had worked on around the school. We find that small changes can still make a big difference sometimes in projects, it’s about the clever choices and solutions. Whilst we do spend a lot of time at different sites, managing varied projects, we also head back to the ECP HQ regularly to catch up. So we thought it was about time to give our own site a ‘little’ refurb, starting with one of our meeting rooms. The weather may have turned 🌧, but that’s not stopping us working on our projects, even if a lot of those are roof refurbishments! Pleased to share we have completed the first of 10 roofs being refurbed at the Oakgrove School in Milton Keynes. And we’re moving quickly through the other 9, progressing well despite the showers. It gave DIY SOS vibes, but only in relation to the timeframe we completed the work in. Internal reconfiguration during the half term week! Earlier this year, our team helped St Paul’s C of E VA Primary and Nursery School in Hertfordshire, with a much needed internal reconfiguration. And to avoid disruption to the pupils, the work was started and completed during the February half term! Prior to our work, the school was somewhat of a rabbit warren after it had been extended and altered previously. Privacy issues remained, and more working space was needed. We suggested a reorganisation would be the best solution, which included doors and windows being moved and all main construction was started and completed in a week.
