At the EIDO Conference last week, Simon Parsons gave a summary of the updated 2020 General Medical Council guidance on informed consent. Key takeaways were: ✅ Decision-making is an ongoing, patient-centred dialogue. ✅ Patients need clear, accessible information tailored to their needs. ✅ Delegated consent requires well-trained, competent team members. ✅ Reviewing decisions is crucial when circumstances change. Tools can assist, but meaningful dialogue cannot be replaced and will foster trust from patients and improve outcomes. How do you ensure your patients are truly informed?

About us
EIDO Healthcare - Delivering trusted digital consent and the proven experts in informed consent for over 20 years offering patient information and education documentation and e-learning resources. EIDO Healthcare produces patient information documents to aid the surgery consent process. This is done by working closely with many Royal Colleges and Associations who endorse the library inc. RCSEng, ASGBI, RCSEd, RCOphth, BAPS, POA among others. EIDO understand the importance of making sure the information patients receive before surgery is easy to read and understand, so we work very closely with the Plain English Campaign. They ensure every single one of the 365+ documents we produce are clear and straightforward. The EIDO documents promote good conversations between clinical staff and patients and help improve those relationships. This is done by very clearly explaining the benefits, alternatives and risks of the procedure they are about to have. All this information is based on national evidence and peer reviewed data. The EIDO documents are reviewed every year to ensure they are inline with all surgical guidelines and meet the relevant CQC requirements.

We are thrilled to announce that Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is going live with the EIDO digital patient consent system! 🎉 The trust is undergoing a 3-month pilot starting with their breast department, followed by their ENT department. After the pilot period, the digital consent system will be implemented trust-wide, delivering the gold standard in patient consent across all services. This digital consent system offers high-quality patient information leaflets and surgical procedure animations, alongside digital consent forms. This system puts the decision-making power firmly in the hands of the patients, enabling them to either sign a digital consent form while at their appointment, or have the information and digital consent form securely sent afterwards by email or text message, so that they can make the decision in their own time. If you are interested in also taking the steps to bring your patients into the EIDO digital consent process, contact us today at info@eidohealthcare.com ✉
