ERA's Group meetings bring our members together to collaborate on the challenges confronting regional aviation, and are a great way of involving the #ERAFamily in our work. While we are looking forward to the first Industry Affairs Group and Environmental & Social Group meeting of 2025 this week, we take a look back at the previous joint Safety and Operations Group meeting and the issues discussed. ERA (European Regions Airline Association) is a trade association representing the European aviation industry
About us
ERA (European Regions Airline Association) is a non-profit trade association representing the European aviation industry. Its strength and influence spans more than three decades, since its inception ERA has developed and grown in size and reputation to represent 50 airlines and over 140 service providers including airframe and engine manufacturers, airports, suppliers and service providers from all over Europe. By working together ERA member companies have become a well-respected and established voice of the industry. Through its shared knowledge and experience ERA is able to offer its members an invaluable means of helping identify and address common challenges. ERA works on behalf of its members to represent their interests before Europe’s major regulatory bodies. The association also bring members together to exchange information and learn from each other through different events and forums for members to meet. A major role for ERA is to raise the profile and importance of regional air transport to the economic and social development of Europe and this is undertaken through lobbying and communication campaigns.

🌎 It has been a few weeks since the launch of the update of Destination 2050 roadmap, and yet I have remained silent of what has been for me almost my main occupation in the past months as European Regions Airline Association Head of Sustainability. I just observed how our key messages have sunk in, and it seems not everybody have fully grasped what we have achieved. 🗻 It was not an easy task, but we have managed to bring a realistic and strong scientific roadmap that supports advocacy work, with a complete set of #policy recommendations, which calls for more #industrial support, more #prosperity and more #investment. It does not exists anywhere else and it shall now serve as a compass and as a political object for Commissioners. We have achieved this thanks to partners associations like ACI EUROPE, Airlines for Europe (A4E), CANSO and Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), and with NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre and SEO Amsterdam Economics. 🔑 You will find in this article an inside story on this #Destination2050 journey, finding how we have well represented the European Regions Airline Association membership, how our ERA president Jesper Rungholm made the most impactful impression at the Destination 2050 launch, why you need to follow Kurt Vandenberghe on LinkedIn and lots of thanks to all Destination 2050 teams, most especially to Montserrat Barriga Andrés for having supported me in this project. 🕝 Almost 4 Years ago, Laurent Donceel provided an article about the first Destination 2050 roadmap, his work on this initiative has always deeply inspired me, so I have tried to collect and write some personal thoughts that, I hope, will be useful for everybody, from the decision makers, by our ERA members and to the overall aviation industry. Again huge thanks to all D2050 teams Morten Bj. Petersen Alexandre de Joybert, Monika Rybakowska, Belarmino Paradela, Johnny Pring, Olivier Jankovec, Ourania Georgoutsakou, Vincent De Vroey, Agata Łyżnik, Kevin Hiney, Becky Warburton, people at NLR and SEO, notably to Elisabeth van der Sman the team lead, and NLR actors with who I exchanged the most, namely Bram Peerlings & Martin Adler. And also special thanks for our decisive exchanges to Bertrand de LACOMBE, Valérie Guénon, Eóghain M. and many others :) And my final and biggest thanks to all supporting members of European Regions Airline Association, ATR, Embraer, Heart Aerospace, ZeroAvia, AURA AERO, Luxair, Amelia (by Regourd Aviation), SKY express, Air Corsica, Widerøe,

Policies like the EU ETS and CORSIA are key to reducing CO2 emissions in European aviation by putting a direct cost on carbon. These measures not only drive emission reductions but also incentivise the development and adoption of alternative fuels and sustainable energy. Economic measures are one of the four key measures in our #Destination2050 roadmap that will enable our industry to reach net zero. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eFGybg68

Airline ticket booking has been transformed with the rise of digital platforms. This shift has unlocked greater convenience and accessibility as well as competition. However, it is vital that the principles of transparency and fairness are maintained so as not to negatively impact smaller players, like our members. ERA member airline Amelia (by Regourd Aviation) is leading the way in reducing non-CO2 impacts by taking part in a contrail avoidance trial. Since June 2024, the solution has been deployed on all Paris-Valladolid flights operated by Amelia using Embraer ERJ145 aircraft, with a minimum average decrease of up to 40% in the total climate impact of flights. https://lnkd.in/e529B4eb

Scaling up alternative fuels and sustainable energy is the biggest driver in reducing emissions and achieving net-zero CO2 aviation in Europe by 2050. To make this a reality, we need: ⚡ Rapid industrial deployment of SAF & synthetic fuel production 💰 Investment & financing to scale up sustainable solutions 🔋 A major boost in low-carbon electricity production Explore our infographic to see how clean energy is shaping the future of aviation ⤵️

Aviation is committed to achieving net zero but we urgently need support. ERA and the #Destination2050 partners have today written an open letter to Ursula von der Leyen urging her to take immediate action to ensure our industry’s effective and successful transition to net zero – enabling us to continue delivering the connectivity that is crucial for the EU’s cohesion, competitiveness and global position. It is crucial that aviation is included in the forthcoming Clean Industrial Deal with a specific action plan for our sector, enabling decarbonisation while preserving the unique economic and social benefits of air connectivity. The warnings in the updated Destination 2050 roadmap, published last week, are stark: we can still meet the 2050 net zero target, but that this will not be achievable without immediate EU support. Otherwise, our sector risks becoming a casualty of EU Climate Action, with far-reaching impacts on prosperity and competitiveness. Read the open letter: https://lnkd.in/e5zq8crx
