Our planet’s nature is diminishing, fast. Climate change, habitat destruction, unsustainable resource use, poaching. It’s all having a devastating impact on our home. It’s time to change the story. Working with local partners, communities, and supporters like you, our shared purpose is to protect the diversity of life on Earth, for the survival of the planet and its people. We are committed to saving nature, together. Protecting habitats, reviving the ocean, reducing extinctions, stopping illegal wildlife trade, combatting climate change. We fuse local and international knowledge to find the best solutions to the issues we face; from working directly in biodiverse areas, to influencing governments and businesses on a global scale.

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are among the most effective tools for safeguarding marine biodiversity. When well-designed and managed, they not only protect ecosystems but also enhance fish stocks, strengthen resilience to climate change, and support coastal livelihoods. However, MPAs need more than just a place on the map—they require: 🌊 Strong management 🐠 Local engagement 🐚 Sustainable financing That’s exactly what the PaMAR project is working to accelerate in Cabo Verde, complementing the nation's ongoing efforts to expand marine protection. Over the next five years, the project will collaborate with the government to: 🤝 Support MPA expansion 🏝️ Strengthen management of existing MPAs 🐬 Enhance a connected MPA network across multiple islands Collaboration is key to this effort. Policymakers, scientists, fishers, and conservationists all have a role in shaping the future of these protected areas. Earlier this year, meaningful discussions with local communities and marine sector stakeholders reinforced the importance of working together to balance conservation with livelihoods. This initiative is made possible by our implementing partners: Associação Projeto Biodiversidade, Associação Projecto Vitó, Biosfera NGO, Fundação Maio Biodiversidade (FMB), Associação de Conservação da Biodiversidade - Biflores, and Associação Terrimar – Ambiente e Desenvolvimento Sustentável, and always in collaboration with Cabo Verde’s government. Long-term support from partners like Blue Action Fund, Arcadia, and Oceans 5 is what turns conservation goals into action. #MarineConservation #CaboVerde

New insights into wildlife distribution in Maiko National Park 🌿 Through extensive field surveys funded by the IUCN Save Our Species grant, our team has uncovered key patterns in the distribution of chimpanzees, gorillas, okapis and elephants in Maiko National Park, DRC—one of the least-studied strongholds for these species. Using systematic field surveys and advanced modelling techniques, we identified that: 🦍 Gorillas and chimpanzees favour rugged, lower-elevation terrain—likely due to safety and nesting preferences. 🌱 Okapis were found across much of the southern sector of the park, but their habitat choices were harder to predict, suggesting they may be highly adaptable. 🐘 Elephants avoid areas near roads, reinforcing concerns that human infrastructure influences their movement and safety. While direct human impact (such as poaching and mining) wasn’t a significant factor in our models, we recognise that these activities may still be shaping wildlife behaviour in ways that require further study. Understanding these hidden pressures is essential for effective conservation planning. Our findings help pinpoint priority areas for protection, ensuring that conservation efforts are targeted where they are most needed. The next steps? Conducting similar surveys for the central and northern sectors of the park, strengthening anti-poaching patrols, habitat protection, and deeper research into human-wildlife interactions. #Conservation #WildlifeResearch #IUCNSOS

  • Sealing the deal for survival. 🦭 We are working with partners in Turkiye to reverse the damage done to Mediterranean monk seal populations. In collaboration with Akdeniz Koruma Derneği, we have been working with local communities to tackle overfishing and invasive species. Success for the seals of Gokova Bay has also come in the form of an artificial ledge, which provides vital habitat for the seals to breed. 📸 Zafer Kizilkaya

  • Sound on 🔊 “I felt very excited and emotional because I witnessed an extremely rare primate in Khau Ca” For those fortunate enough to encounter the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey in the wild, it’s a moment that stays with you forever. Their striking features, the way they move gracefully through the treetops, and the stillness of the surrounding limestone forest create an unforgettable experience With around 200 individuals left, these encounters are becoming increasingly rare. The Tonkin snub-nosed monkey’s survival relies on ongoing conservation efforts to protect them. Fauna & Flora team and community partners share their experiences of seeing the monkey for the first time, as vital conservation work continues to ensure that future generations can experience the awe of seeing these extraordinary creatures in their natural habitat. This piece is part of a collaborative content series with the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation, which supports our work in Vietnam. We are pleased to share our successful deployment of 159 camera traps and 74 gibbon AudioMoths in collaboration with our government partners across key target areas in Virachey National Park, a site renowned for its rich biodiversity and rare wildlife species.  The activity aims to study and record the presence of different species and distributions of wildlife within the park. The data from this survey will be shared with the Ministry of Environment and used as knowledge and information in the preparation of a strategic conservation plan to strengthen the effectiveness of species conservation. This activity was financially supported by the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF) Lower Mekong Landscape project, funded by the UK International Development. #Conservation #Cambodia #Wildlife #Cameratrap

Dynamic fundraising leader | 10+ Years in nature conservation | Experienced securing 6-7 figure grants & managing donor portfolios | Innovative funding strategies for more flexible funds for climate & conservation Impact

🌿 Strengthening fundraising in Nicaragua! Over the past two days, my colleague (Florencia Chiapero) and I have worked closely with our amazing staff in Nicaragua and partners—Casa Carey, Biometepe, Cooperativa Anáhuac, and Cootuepam— to strengthen their fundraising knowledge and skills. We explored key topics such as identifying funding opportunities, building donor relationships, and crafting compelling proposals. From donor research and qualification to proposal evaluations and mock interviews, every session was hands-on and practical, designed to empower our partners to better secure support for their vital conservation work. Tomorrow, we’ll wrap up by creating informed and proactive fundraising plans—turning learning into action. Fauna & Flora places partnerships at the heart of its conservation approaches, and focuses on empowering partners with the knowledge, skills, and tools to take ownership of conservation initiatives, fostering resilience and long-term impact 💬 Have you ever reflected on what makes a donor relationship thrive or a proposal truly resonate? Share your thoughts below! Let’s inspire each other to reach new heights in fundraising. This is an effort by Fauna & Flora, supported by a grant from the Paul M. Angell Foundation. #Conservation #Fundraising #Collaboration
