  • Well done Donal Fitzpatrick and team for raising vital funds for NI Chest, Heart & Stroke, a charity very close to our hearts. #teamfoh

After suffering a stroke on March 18th 2023 Donal Fitzpatrick, a Senior Site Manager for building contractors Felix O’Hare, feels that he is lucky to have made (an almost) full recovery and is now back at work, thanks to the quick reaction of both his family and the stroke team at Craigavon area hospital. Donal explains, ‘My wife is a nurse and knew immediately what was happening. Thankfully she rushed me straight to the A&E and insisted that I be seen immediately. I am sure her quick thinking is the reason I recovered so well and am back at work again now. I wouldn’t say that everything is exactly the same as before the stroke happened, I still feel great fatigue on days and I recognise that my body has been through a trauma, but I also realise how fortunate I am to have made such a good recovery over the last 18 months.” Being a keen hill walker before his stroke, and having been able to get back walking again after his rehabilitation, Donal wanted to use this as an opportunity to give something back to help other stroke victims, encouraging his workmates to climb Slieve Binnian with him on 22nd September this year to raise funds and help us continue our work providing stroke PREP rehabilitation programmes and family support in all health trust areas. Together this terrific team smashed their initial fundraising target of £3,000 and have now raised an incredible £4,400 which will go such a long way towards supporting these vital services. A huge heartfelt thanks to Donal and all the team Felix O'Hare & Co. Ltd for everything they done to support us and people in local communities suffering daily from this terrible condition. Tuesday 29th October is World Stroke Day 2024, and if like Donal you want to ensure that we are there to help in the recovery of stroke victims across NI, could you volunteer to help with our collections at 15 Tesco stores? Find out more: https://lnkd.in/etrZTNyR If you could spare a couple of hours on World Stroke Day to help us collect donations to support our stroke services please contact nduncan@nichs.org.uk or Tel 028 9032 0184 during office hours.

  • World Mental Health Day This year’s theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities. Big thanks to Joanne McKernan for delivering this mornings presentation to some of our site team. The homemade buns went down a treat!

  • Delighted to have hosted the CEF at our flagship NIFRS scheme. A great opportunity to showcase a truly unique facility that provides real life senario training and promotes innovaite design and construction.

Big thanks to Felix O'Hare & Co. Ltd and to Conor McCrory of Strategic Investment Board and Maurice Wray of the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service for showing us around the new Learning & Development College at Desertcreat today. The many training settings including the flood tank, burning car, ship set and collapsing buildings will provide NIFRS, and crucially also overseas emergency forces, true-to-life training scenarios to raise understanding and learning of rescue situations. This facility is truly world-class and shows not only the vision and focus but the quality of design construction that we can deliver with local companies like Felix O’Hare.

  • Last week, some of the #TeamFOH celebrated #IWD2024 with an afternoon out of the office!   The UK construction industry achieved a milestone in 2023 with 15.8% of its workforce being female (Office for National Statistics) - an increase of over 3% on the pre-pandemic level). However, the UKCW (2024) have said that the “lack of visibility and limited mentorship opportunities can make it challenging for women to envision a long-term and successful career in construction.”   That is why the theme for #IWD2024 this year of #InspireInclusion is so important so that as an industry we turn our focus to inspiring others to understand and value women's inclusion. At Felix O’Hare, we will always seek to foster a workplace culture where everyone feels valued, respected and included. We will promote the incredible work done by the women in #TeamFOH so that young women can see the opportunities which exist for them in this industry. We will actively #InspireInclusion so that all women in the industry are recognised and valued for the work they do.
