After suffering a stroke on March 18th 2023 Donal Fitzpatrick, a Senior Site Manager for building contractors Felix O’Hare, feels that he is lucky to have made (an almost) full recovery and is now back at work, thanks to the quick reaction of both his family and the stroke team at Craigavon area hospital.
Donal explains, ‘My wife is a nurse and knew immediately what was happening. Thankfully she rushed me straight to the A&E and insisted that I be seen immediately. I am sure her quick thinking is the reason I recovered so well and am back at work again now. I wouldn’t say that everything is exactly the same as before the stroke happened, I still feel great fatigue on days and I recognise that my body has been through a trauma, but I also realise how fortunate I am to have made such a good recovery over the last 18 months.”
Being a keen hill walker before his stroke, and having been able to get back walking again after his rehabilitation, Donal wanted to use this as an opportunity to give something back to help other stroke victims, encouraging his workmates to climb Slieve Binnian with him on 22nd September this year to raise funds and help us continue our work providing stroke PREP rehabilitation programmes and family support in all health trust areas. Together this terrific team smashed their initial fundraising target of £3,000 and have now raised an incredible £4,400 which will go such a long way towards supporting these vital services.
A huge heartfelt thanks to Donal and all the team Felix O'Hare & Co. Ltd for everything they done to support us and people in local communities suffering daily from this terrible condition.
Tuesday 29th October is World Stroke Day 2024, and if like Donal you want to ensure that we are there to help in the recovery of stroke victims across NI, could you volunteer to help with our collections at 15 Tesco stores?
