About us
Hello there, we’re First Bus. We’re one of the UK’s biggest bus operators trusted by millions to do more than just get people from A to B. For us, travel is about those everyday moments that bring people together and create new experiences. We call it ‘Moving the Everyday’ because that’s what we’re here to do. At First Bus, we focus on what matters most. Our people. We were the first in the sector to achieve real Living Wage employer status because we believe when we take care of our team, they’re in the best position to take care of others. Sustainability matters to us. We’re on track for a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035 with over 800 zero-emission buses already on the road. In partnership with local authorities, we're working to improve air quality, reduce congestion and make travel easier for everyone. We’re always looking for ways to improve the experience for those who rely on us. With innovations like Tap On, Tap Off payments, we’re making travel more convenient and secure. We’re not just about transport — we’re about making a real difference to the community, the environment and the future of how we travel. In the UK, we also operate Specialist Passenger Solutions, First Travel Solutions, York Pullman Bus Company, and Ensignbus. Beyond the UK, we have Aircoach in Ireland. We’re always listening, inspired by the people we serve and the moments we’re part of. Together, you’re helping shape what’s next for us. As part of FirstGroup, we’re connected to something bigger. Our experience and focus on doing the right thing help us keep moving forward with purpose. Got a question or need help? Visit firstbus.co.uk — we’re here for you.

What does it take to lead with impact, step into new opportunities and bring others along with you? Janette Bell, Managing Director of First Bus, joined The WLA (Women Leaders Association) for International Women’s Day to share her thoughts on leadership, career moves and backing yourself. Her career has taken unexpected turns, showing that the best opportunities often come from saying yes to something different. Some key lessons from Janette's talk: ✔️ Do not let one opinion hold you back. The right environment and support can open possibilities you may not have considered. ✔️ Success does not always come from a straight path. Every role and experience adds something valuable. ✔️ You have the power to change direction at any time. Bold moves can lead to new opportunities, even when the outcome is uncertain. At First Bus, leadership is about inspiring more people to love and use the bus while shaping the future of transport. On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who challenge expectations, open doors for others and show what is possible. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #Leadership #WomenInBusiness #Mentorship #FirstBus #AccelerateAction

We’re proud to announce a new partnership with the Youth Adventure Trust, a youth development charity dedicated to empowering vulnerable young people through outdoor adventure and one-to-one support. The YAT has recently expanded its Resilience Programme into Somerset, where First Bus serves communities across the county. We’ll use our Truronian coach business to support YAT activities, providing transport for young people to attend activity days. This includes a Coastal Day, which takes young people from Somerset to Dorset, giving them challenges to encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and learn they can achieve more than they think. First Bus in Somerset will also offer opportunities for young people to visit their depots to give valuable hands-on experience and an understanding of career paths in transport for young people. A special and memorable day for the West Yorkshire team as we, together with his family and friends, surprised Ken Cooke, York’s last-surviving veteran of D-Day by revealing one of our fleet named in his honour. Ken, who will be 100 in August this year, landed on Gold Beach on 6 June 1944 with The Green Howards, 7th Battalion to take part in the Normandy Landings at the age of 18. It was a privilege to spend time with Ken and listen to his recollections of a moment that changed history. Read more 👇

The Yorkshire & Humber Regional Labour Party Conference in Sheffield was an opportunity for discussion on the role of buses in driving growth and how First Bus is working with partners to invest millions in electrifying fleets across the UK. Over two days, we had valuable conversations with Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood, Mayors David Skaith and Oliver Coppard, and Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council and Chair of the WY Combined Authority Transport Committee. With bus reform and investment high on the agenda, these conversations are key to shaping the future of sustainable transport. Exciting times ahead, and we look forward to continuing the dialogue.
