About us
Hello there, we’re First Bus. We’re one of the UK’s biggest bus operators trusted by millions to do more than just get people from A to B. For us, travel is about those everyday moments that bring people together and create new experiences. We call it ‘Moving the Everyday’ because that’s what we’re here to do. At First Bus, we focus on what matters most. Our people. We were the first in the sector to achieve real Living Wage employer status because we believe when we take care of our team, they’re in the best position to take care of others. Sustainability matters to us. We’re on track for a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035 with over 800 zero-emission buses already on the road. In partnership with local authorities, we're working to improve air quality, reduce congestion and make travel easier for everyone. We’re always looking for ways to improve the experience for those who rely on us. With innovations like Tap On, Tap Off payments, we’re making travel more convenient and secure. We’re not just about transport — we’re about making a real difference to the community, the environment and the future of how we travel. In the UK, we also operate Specialist Passenger Solutions, First Travel Solutions, York Pullman Bus Company, and Ensignbus. Beyond the UK, we have Aircoach in Ireland. We’re always listening, inspired by the people we serve and the moments we’re part of. Together, you’re helping shape what’s next for us. As part of FirstGroup, we’re connected to something bigger. Our experience and focus on doing the right thing help us keep moving forward with purpose. Got a question or need help? Visit firstbus.co.uk — we’re here for you.

We’re thrilled to announce that more First Bus sites have joined the heatboss family in recent weeks! As one of the UK's largest national bus operators, they have taken another step towards sustainability by installing heatboss smart heating controls in six of their Scottish sites - with more on the way. This will deliver enhanced comfort, optimised efficiency, and easier control therein, whilst helping First Bus advance their determined commitment to towards a zero-emissions future! 🌍💚 🚍 #Sustainability #SmartControls #NetZero #Save30% #zeroemissionmission

At First Bus Rochdale, we’re delighted to play a part in this year’s Cash for Kids Greater Manchester Mission Christmas, helping to ensure no child has to worry that Santa won’t come. Thanks to the generosity of our colleagues, we’ve collected 87 toys and gifts, worth over £1,000, and contributed an additional £250 cash donation to this fantastic cause. With gift requests for over 36,000 children in Greater Manchester—including more than 3,000 in Rochdale—this initiative is making a real difference for families in need. A heartfelt thank you to colleagues who donated and made this possible. Together, we’re making Christmas morning brighter for those who need it most. Great work by Jess Rigby and the team at Cash for Kids Greater Manchester!! It was incredible to see the setup today when we dropped off our donations. It was like the real Santa's workshop! Introducing Tinyfoot and Evie’s Adventure to Tiny Street, the little book with a big message! As First Bus makes huge strides towards its 2035 Zero Emission Mission, we set out to find a way to connect the future of sustainable transport with our future customers and decision makers ⚡️🌍 So, naturally, we created a storybook 📖 The books purpose is to educate young minds about how they can make better choices for the world, and it’s available for free with an optional donation to our charity partner, Macmillan. It’s been a super exciting launch so far, and we recently took our life-sized Evie bus to two local schools 🚍 Know a school in West Yorkshire or York who’d love to get involved? Drop me a message! A huge thanks to everyone who played a part in bringing this to life, particularly the team at Cravens, our fantastic illustrator Emily Cooksey, and PR whizz Richard Harrison 👏🏼 firstbus.co.uk/storybook

Mondays aren’t all made equal ⚖️ I had the pleasure of speaking at the Women in Bus and Coach APPG at the House of Commons this week, where I met with generous & inspiring colleagues from across the industry. We discussed the huge strides made by the WiBC teams nationally, and looked ahead to a busy 2025: Lunch & Learns, the Annual Summit, more critical work on inclusive cab design… The list is a long’un! We have a hill to climb, but the troops are numerous & the enthusiasm strong. If you’d like to get involved, please drop me a line. —— #womeninbus #womenincoach #communitytransport

A sweet surprise... I had a lovely visit today from Jess and Amy from the wonderful charity Community of Purpose CIC to thank us at First Bus for the support in the summer. Some may remember we at First Bus helped over 100 young children attend the Bristol together sports tournament in Bristol in the summer hosted by the charity, the day was fantastic (although very hot) I loved hearing the passion and enthusiasm from Jess and Amy this morning and I am proud we could help so many young people make new friends and do something different and healthy! We hope to facilitate next year's event so planning for that will get underway in the spring- this is a big job and covers Bristol and the surrounding areas. A thoughtful touch of some goodies that is well received and a big thank you from me for the thank you from them. We are so happy to be out serving our communities and having some positive stories helps ease the pain of the bad ones. Merry Christmas all! #community #purpose #givingback #firstbus #Bristol #charity #children #schools #passion #enthusiasm #socialresponsibility #communityengagement

As December unfolds, we’re reminded that the festive season is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on how we can support those in need. At FirstGroup, we’re committed to making a difference in the communities we serve, and our charity partnerships play a central role in achieving this. This Christmas, we’re proud to highlight the incredible work of our three key partners: the Samaritans, Railway Children, and Macmillan Cancer Support: https://bit.ly/41HDRNp
