Over ten years ago, Tanya fled torture, abuse, detention and a cruel husband in her home country. She had never felt so alone. But through her counselling at Freedom from Torture and joining the writing group, Tanya was able to find the words to support her own healing. Writing gave Tanya the control of what she revisits, and when. This Thursday, we’re celebrating the power of writing in our Literary Festival. In the words of Tanya; “it shows not just that torture has no borders and happens around the world, but also that generosity and love have no borders either. The generosity of our supporters unlocks a vast ocean of human potential and makes dreams come true.” Take a look at our bookmark raffle or online auction, and know that your generosity will support survivors like Tanya to heal through writing: https://lnkd.in/epXQTqMc

Is this just the best raffle prize ever ? Coffee and cake with Baroness Hale. I am still reeling with shock after winning this amazing raffle prize at the Liverpool Law Society Annual Awards Dinner. Here I am grinning like a Cheshire Cat looking like I have won the lottery. Still pinching myself, did this really happen? I think I might just have to frame my winning ticket. What a wonderful evening with team Bond Turner Sara Stanger Helen Neville James Tomlinson Malcolm Lewis Chantal Rabbetts Robert Morris Chris Dennis celebrating Sara Stanger nomination for Outstanding Lawyer of the Year. You could have heard a pin drop in a very large room and audience when Baroness Hale gave an inspirational and entertaining speech, indeed the room fell silent for all the speakers who were wonderful. Thrilled to hear it was such a successful fund raiser for Baroness Hale's nominated charity Freedom from Torture Congratulations to all the winners and all those who were nominated for awards. 🎉 🎉 🎉 This was my first time at the Liverpool Law Society Awards and hopefully the first of many. I am now really proud to call myself a member of Liverpool Law Society as an employee of Bond Turner and looking forward to the year ahead as a brand new member. #LiverpoolCityRegion #Fundraising #ADLA #Award

Never underestimate the power of kindness. #WorldKindnessDay When far-right rioters took to the streets of Middlesbrough back in August, in an act of kindness, hundreds of volunteers took to the streets to show those targeted that they were not alone. This one act of kindness from the Middlesborough community cost nothing, but it meant everything to people seeking safety across the country.

REDRESS and partner organisations of the United Against Torture Consortium met with the United Nations Committee Against Torture to discuss the importance of survivor participation. Survivor engagement and empowerment is at the heart of the Consortium's priorities. Over the last 40 years, since the adoption of the #ConventionAgainstTorture, the courage and determination of victims and survivors has been crucial to achieving progress in the fight against torture and impunity. We're grateful to the Committee for their engagement and are keen to work with them to enhance survivor participation in UN processes. #UnitedAgainstTorture

Inara was detained and tortured in her home country, left traumatised. And she came to the UK, she was still living with the horrors of the past. She’d wake up in the night in a cold sweat and hear the voice of her torturer in her head, threatening her throughout the day. After going through all this, she couldn’t cope. Not without help. Thanks to therapy at Freedom from Torture she can finally sleep through the night & break the cycle of trauma. So many survivors like Inara urgently need our specialist help so they can begin to rebuild their lives, one day at a time. Will you help with a Christmas gift of therapy to a survivor of torture today? Donate now: https://lnkd.in/eA4chGEu

On days like today, when hate and division appear to be on top, remember that we stand together united by our belief in something better. We are united by our solidarity with people seeking safety and our desire to treat others with compassion. Together, we will continue to better human rights and uphold the torture ban. And remember this, there are many more of us than there are them.

Donald Trump will be the next President of the USA. During his last presidency he stated that torture “works”. Dangerous language like this risks being seen as a green light to torturers globally. Torture is always wrong and always prohibited. We see the devastation it reaps daily in our therapy rooms. It is now more important than ever that the UK stands up against torture. The new government must be crystal clear that it wholeheartedly rejects Trump’s ill-informed and incorrect views
