*Punishing Poverty Instead of Solving Problems* In Norfolk, 19 parents were prosecuted for their children’s unauthorised school absences, facing financial penalties many could ill afford. These cases highlight the deeper systemic issues affecting families, particularly the barriers girls face in accessing education. Two parents explained their daughters missed school because of policies restricting toilet access during lessons, making it impossible to manage their periods. Tina Leslie MBE (FRSA) spoke about how this is unfair and harmful, noting that stigma, embarrassment, and restrictive rules drive girls out of classrooms. Instead of solving the root issues—such as inadequate period support or poverty—parents are hit with fines, adding another layer of punishment to already challenging situations. While schools often try to intervene with letters or meetings, these measures don’t address the structural barriers families face. This case raises urgent questions: Why are girls being denied basic dignity at school? And why are families punished financially instead of being offered meaningful support to overcome the barriers to education? It’s time to rethink policies and priorities, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn without unnecessary obstacles or stigma. We need more menstrual education to normalise periods to break the taboo that still surrounds periods as a whole. Read the article here - https://lnkd.in/etVNYebA https://lnkd.in/eQ5ufaPy

About us
Freedom4Girls are a UK-registered charity fighting against period poverty. Awarded the Queens Award for Volunteering 2021 with special recognition for COVID response work. #QAVS We work to support those who menstruate by challenging the stigmas, taboos and gender inequalities associated with menstruation. We do this by providing education, providing period products, promoting product choice and supporting environmentally and financially sustainable options. Period poverty affects millions of women and girls worldwide, who struggle to afford or access safe menstrual protection. The economic, social and environmental impacts of period poverty are huge, with many of those affected missing out on education and job opportunities simply due to their periods. We envisage a world in which no girl or woman suffers from period poverty or stigma associated with their periods. No girl should miss school because she is on her period. No woman should be forced to miss work because she is on her period. Please help us end period poverty, together!

"This is not just a film - it is a call to action!" What a fitting opening statement from Stella Mokaya Orina the Kenyan Ambassador to Germany in the opening to an exclusive screening of IMPURE, organised by GIZ / BMZ. The movie depicts the moving story of June, who lives in a village in Kwale County, Kenya. Her first period is a moment of confusion, shame, and being scared for her life. Impure is based on a true story. But I want to add that it is unfortunately a true story for many young girls. All around the world. The panel with Stella Nyanzi, Naisula Lepariyo, Rico Herre Janina Breitling emphasised that creating awareness and bringing boys and men into the conversation around periods are critical. Culture (films, art, songs) can initiate and change conversations in society. And I hope Impure can do to Africa what the Padman movie did to India. For more information, you can check our channels https://lnkd.in/dgV7hicg Everyone can do small actions, like speaking openly, supporting women and girls, and demanding change from governments. "We have been silent for too long. It's time to get loud" said Janet Mbugua in the movie's epilogue. So let's get loud! #menstruation #periodpoverty #menstrualhealth #puberty #Cinemaforchange #PeriodFriendlyWorld Jan Schlenk Linda Hell Sophia Bäurle Josepha Niebelschütz Fabien Matthias Olivia Marina Kunz

NEW SCULPTURE UNVEILED TO CELEBRATE INSPIRATIONAL LEEDS WOMEN It was a pleasure to attend last night’s launch of Ribbons by Pippa Hale. This fascinating sculpture stands proudly at Quarry Hill and celebrates the hundreds of Leeds women that have made a difference in the city. It’s been five years in the making, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see it in all its glory! 👏 📍Quarry Hill #leeds #leedscitycentre #inspirationalwomen

🫂I’m so proud of the Weird Jungle team!🫂 It was really validating putting these slides together and not having to “spin” anything or scrape around to ‘find our values’. This is how we choose to work - in a way that matches up to how we live our lives. The response we’ve had already shows that people really care about who they work with and what they stand for. It’s an honour to be supporting Freedom4girls Uk and the amazing work they do to end #PeriodPoverty whilst we make songs sound the best they possible can. #DoGoodBeNice #LifeWorkBalance #MasteredAtWeirdJungle #Mastering CC Katie Tavini Stephen Kerrison Izzy McPhee #CarlasNotOnLinkedIn

Was a bit disappointed to see that there were no menstrual products available in the toilets at the Paris Olympic Beach Volley Ball stadium. Procter & Gamble, who own Always, are sponsors of the 2024 games, and are providing menstrual products to the athletes. Yet, there were none available free or to buy for spectators. There were also no bins in the stalls. Paris Tourism estimates that between 15 and 16 million sports enthusiasts and tourists are expected to visit the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Yet, women, girls, and people who menstruate will not be able to enjoy the sporting events knowing that their basic needs are met! For those arguing that this is irrelevant, imagine there was no toilet roll at the Olympics and you had to bring your own! NO ONE should experience menstrual stigma or shame when watching the team/sport they love! Between 2018-2021, I successfully campaigned for Rangers Football Club to provide free products at Ibrox stadium (capacity 50,987). This is because access to menstrual products, discreet disposal, and facilities with running water are essential to menstrual health. Menstrual Rights Global is committed to driving menstrual health as fundamental to our reproductive rights, human rights, and building women, girls, and people who menstruates' participation in sport and broader society Jon Moeller and International Olympic Committee – IOC can we please ensure that we have access to a variety of menstrual products for athletes and spectators at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in #MilanoCortina 2026 and #LAOlympics in 2028?! #ParisOlympics #Olympics #Menstruation #srhr
