Alex Pogmore, is a PhD student currently co-sponsored by Fulcro for his research at The School of Engineering, University of Birmingham.   As part of his work, as an early-career researcher, Alex recognises the immense value of learning from leading experts and contributing fresh perspectives to key discussions. Recently, at the University and Healthcare Estates and Innovation Conference and Exhibition Series in Birmingham, Alex presented PhD research on "Decision Support Systems for Facility Management”.   Alongside Carl-Magnus von Behr of innex.ai and Fiona Daly of the NHS, Alex explored the potential of AI to enhance efficiency and end-user experience in the operational-phase of the built environment, emphasising the importance of designing systems for effective human supervisory control.   Alex's research centres on the Fulcro engineering tool, the FULmax VR Hub. This innovative immersive virtual environment allows users to interact within a projected virtual world and stands apart from other VR devices by facilitating face-to-face interactions - widely considered as the gold standard of communication. We were delighted to be part of the successful pilot of the UK’s first IPI (Integrated Project Insurance) light scheme at Dudley College Of Technology's brand-new Animal Studies Centre (ASC). The project team managed to bring the scheme in under budget and ahead of programme, whilst still delivering a high quality retrofit of a hugely underutilised building at their Broadway Campus site. Some of the IPT (Integrated Project Team) recently attended the IStructE Midland Counties Centenary Annual Dinner and Structural Awards 2024, held at the Birmingham Central Library. Jack Parker, an Associate Director here Fulcro went along on the night and saw the ASC collect two awards, winning in the Planet category, and earning a Commendation in the People category.   Fulcro were honoured to be involved in this very successful Project which allowed us to use our expertise to help mitigate risk and create Project certainty.   Congratulations to the whole team!   #Fulcro #creatingprojectcertainty #FULmax #MadeWithUnity

As National Graduate Week draws to a close, we spoke to Alex Pogmore, a Fulcro sponsored student at The School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham. He says, "My PhD research at the University of Birmingham focuses on the development of immersive control rooms, powered by BIM and IoT-based Digital Twins. A central component of my research is on the benefits of CAVEs as a collaborative immersive environment and better understanding of Human-Computer Interactions to increase productivity and user experience.   As co-sponsors of my PhD, Fulcro provides me with access to their technical and industrial expertise, which has been invaluable both for my research and professional development. They've supported my growth through exposure to their projects and customers, support at key industry events, and fostering the development of my ideas. Fulcro as part of the IPT have recently successfully completed the world’s first IPI (Integrated Project Insurance) light scheme, using the successful methodology set out within the IPI principles, but streamlined on a ‘small’ scheme for the new £7,000,000 Animal studies centre at Dudley College. We were procured in a dual role, as a scheme Board Member as well as the Digital Coordinators for the project, where we helped guide the Integrated Project team (IPT) to utilise the latest technology to benefit the scheme, whilst helping the IPT members and the suppliers to coordinate the project and the design successfully. The project team were delighted to report that we were able to deliver the project ahead of programme and under budget, which was an incredible achievement considering the constraints of constructing within an existing 1940’s school building. Our expertise on numerous projects over our 22-year lifetime has enabled projects to be delivered even better, and for less, by early identification and mitigation of risk, thus creating greater project certainty.   #fulcro #creatingprojectcertainty #FULmax #MadeWithUnity
