Our patients’ loved ones often need a comfortable space to relax and rest during their time visiting here at the Hospice. Stepping out of the Inpatient Unit but being close-by is so important to them. We’re proud to have this facility now available – a cosy, beautifully-furnished private ensuite room overlooking the garden. This important project was made possible by a kind donation from our valued supporter, Lady Valerie Dixon. We invited her to name this space and after careful consideration, it’ll be known as the ‘Valerian’ room. It is in keeping with the garden theme throughout the Hospice, a nod to the calming qualities of the perennial plant, and a gesture to Lady Dixon’s first name. When asked why she decided to fund this project, Lady Dixon commented: “I know how important it is to have a facility that can help patients feel more at ease with what they’re going through by having their family close by. It’s also important that family members are able to look after themselves and rest during what can be a challenging time. The new family room within the Hospice is ideal for this purpose – a calming environment with two beds, a lovely ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a nice view of the garden. “The more I see of the Hospice, the more I realise how lucky people within the local community are to have this service – not just for end-of-life care but for those living with life-limiting illnesses as well. I hope the Valerian room will be of good use for those who need it.” We are extremely grateful to Lady Dixon for funding our new family room – this improvement wouldn’t have been possible without her generous donation. This is a first step towards improving the patient & family experience within our Inpatient Unit, and there are more significant changes on the way. #ValerianRoom #NewRoom #HospiceCare #FamilySupport

✨📢 We’re finalists! The Farmers Christmas Lights Tour has been shortlisted for a special award – Mum's guide to Hitchin’s BEST LOCAL EVENT. Now, we know the tractors parade is our standout local event of the year, but for so much of the North Herts community it’s a must-see festive occasion too. Mum's guide to Hitchin received a huge number of nominations for all their categories this year and has whittled them down to a final shortlist of amazing local events, businesses and services. The Farmers Christmas Lights Tour is such an incredible event in both size and scale, and brings so much festive joy to the 50,000 members of the community who attend year-on-year. Spectators tell us that watching the tractors travel through their town is a treasured Christmas tradition that they hope continues for years to come. Not only does this event bring happiness to all who attend, it also raises much needed funds for the Hospice – enabling us to provide our award-winning palliative care and wellbeing services over the festive period and beyond. 🔗 Help us bag this fantastic accolade – Best Local Event – by heading to https://lnkd.in/ek2xtvFQ to cast your vote. Now that was truly incredible! We hope you’ve thoroughly enjoyed yourselves this evening. Thank you to all those who have given generously tonight, and huge thanks to the local businesses and partnerships who supported us with their kind sponsorship and time. A special thanks goes to our volunteers for giving their valuable time to collect donations, and to the traffic marshalls, town representatives, local councils and safety teams who have kept everyone safe on the night. Without each and every one of you the event wouldn’t have been the resounding success that it is each year. Our appreciation goes out to all the farmers who took the time to decorate their tractors and participate in the rally. We think you’ll agree that they all went above and beyond this year in their efforts to stand out! Lastly, we wish to give Richard Hill, the event’s organiser, a huge round of applause. Richard works tirelessly to coordinate this massive event and we’re forever grateful for his dedication to fundraising for our very special cause. As Richard says, “same again next December?” #FarmersOnChristmasLightsTour #TheTractorsAreComing #Baldock #Letchworth #Hitchin #ChristmasTractors #TractorRally #Fundraising

Christmas is just around the corner but sadly, it won’t be the most wonderful time of the year for everyone. This year, 15,589 people in North Hertfordshire and Stevenage will be lonely. Carol’s husband Mick died on 1st December 2020. Here, she describes her first Christmas without him and the difference our Compassionate Neighbours service has made to her life. Her story is one of many this festive season. But while Christmas Day is especially devastating for people like Carol, we know loneliness doesn't stop there. Next year, we want to reach more than 1,000 people on their own and match them with someone they can call a friend all year round. To do this, we need to raise £412,009 through our Winter appeal. Please give today and help us add brightness to the 364 other days too: https://lnkd.in/ejq7QMaJ 💙 #WinterAppeal #ChristmasAppeal #BrighterChristmas #CompassionateNeighbours #MakeADifference

The Farmers Christmas Lights Tour is just three days away... who’s ready? 🤩 Event organiser Richard and our Director of Income Generation, Carla, were recently interviewed on BBC Three Counties Radio, sharing the word about the infamous tractor rally. Have a listen as they chat through this huge fundraising event with Babs Michel. As well as bringing the farmers and our community together, and putting a smile on the faces of everyone, we hope to raise £50,000 in donations toward our services. This will fund a week of our specialist care over Christmas. #FarmersOnChristmasLightsTour #TheTractorsAreComing #Baldock #Letchworth #Hitchin #ChristmasTractors #TractorRally
