We've been working with the fabulous Liverpool Irish Festival over the summer. And our geolocated platform created for the Irish Famine Trail is ready for take off! The app sits in your browser, so there are no downloads, and its in-built map bounces from satellites to provide you with a real-time GPS location. As you walk the trail, notifications pop-up to let you know there is some special history just around the corner. Within the numerous site experiences there are audio files, artist-led community films and all sorts of information to be accessed in the various locations across Liverpool. Welcome to the Future of Accessible Travel: ChapARone is Launched! After months of dedication, we're thrilled to announce the launch of ChapARone—an innovative AR digital assistive tool designed to revolutionize the travel experience for passengers with disabilities. Currently being trialled in partnership with #AvantiNorthWest at Birmingham International Station, this accessibility-focused travel tool is funded by the #DepartmentforTransport and #InnovateUK as part of the First of a Kind #FOAK initiative, developed with support from #NetworkRail and #Costain. The technology driving ChapARone was made possible through funding from the #EuropeanSpaceAgency. Their partnership has been instrumental in achieving something truly impactful for accessible travel. What is ChapARone? ChapARone is a cutting-edge Content Management System (CMS) that empowers station staff to create and send real-time information to passengers at various touchpoints within the station. This includes alerts about platform changes, delays, and available facilities, all without the need for passengers to download any app. Instead, passengers can instantly access critical updates through QR codes located throughout the station, or GPS triggers which send them location-relevant notifications. The tool’s ultimate goals are to: 1. Reduce anxiety and confusion, especially for travellers with disabilities 2. Enhance convenience and enjoyment during the journey 3. Accessibility Rail Passenger Tool being trialled ChapARone: A revolutionary AI-Assisted AR Platform for passengers with disabilities Gazooky Studios is aiming to improve the future of accessible train travel with the development of ChapARone. An innovative Augmented Reality (AR) platform, Chaparone, is designed to help passengers, especially those with disabilities, navigate train stations and improve their overall experience. Funded by #InnovateUK in collaboration with #NetworkRail, Gazooky is currently trialling the system in partnership with #AvantiWestCoast at #BirminghamInternationalTrainStation.

They say travel broadens the mind, which has the ring of truth to it, without telling the full story. Beginning with an open mind, curiosity, willingness to engage with other cultures, and experience new things makes travel an educational and thrilling experience. So having a broad mind to start with perhaps makes us more interested in travel. The sad fact is that there are many people who have the desire to travel and immerse themselves in the newness of different places but are effectively excluded from doing so. If you are neurodiverse, have sight loss, hearing loss or a myriad of physical disabilities, especially if you are a wheelchair user, travel can be a nightmare. So, despite wanting to travel, so many people with these conditions don’t travel at all or do so only in a very limited way. Our public transport infrastructure and communication systems don’t make it easy for these people to travel, or actively make it impossible. We don’t think that’s right. Disabilities should not preclude people from traveling by public transport, and that is why our company is investing so heavily in designing digital tools that provide information, reassurance, and guidance for all travellers, and especially those with additional needs. ChapARone is our latest offering which operates on our innovative Gallarie digital experience creation platform.
