About us

Our mission is to raise money to help people and their families suffering from head and neck disease. We aim to fight all forms of head and neck disease, by funding research, education & equipment and have so far raised more than £10million. We were established as a charitable trust in 1994 and are completely reliant upon voluntary income through the generosity of supporters and charitable foundations, to fulfil our objectives. Get A-Head has funded a range of projects and equipment that have made a real difference to those fighting head and neck disease. These include: • Research into cancers of the head and neck including the genetics of two very rare forms of cancer - Medullary Thyroid Cancer (MTC) and Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC). • Support for an Accelerated Cancer Drug treatment programme for five years. The programme aimed to speed up treatment by matching existing drugs, which have already been approved in other conditions like arthritis, to cancers where they have not been tried before. • Help to purchase pioneering equipment for use in operations that ensures the best possible outcomes for patients, such as harmonic scalpels that reduce bleeding and scarring, and most recently the CyberKnife. • Purchased life changing equipment for patients who have lost their voice through cancer to help them communicate with loved ones. • Supported health care professionals with further education and supported a complementary therapy team, who can offer patients alternative treatments that can help relieve some of the symptoms related to cancer treatments.
