💬 "I had to fight to stay alive." Kelly Watson, 43, from East Yorkshire, faced more than three months of delays before finally receiving a diagnosis and treatment for head and neck cancer. Today, she's sharing her story to raise awareness of the "postcode lottery" in cancer care and the emotional toll of waiting for vital treatment. 🗣️ "I want future patients to get good care, no matter who they are or where they live. Cancer care shouldn’t depend on your postcode. If we don’t speak up, nothing will change." Kelly’s battle with head and neck cancer highlights the urgent need for timely, consistent care across the NHS. Despite the delays, she’s thankful for her family, the medical team who treated her, and charities like Oracle Voices and Young Tongues, who supported her through her journey. 📢 Oracle Head & Neck Cancer UK Launches £55,000 Small Grants Programme 📢 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Small Grants Programme aimed at advancing research to improve outcomes for head and neck cancer patients. With a total funding pool of £55,000, we’ll be supporting 1-3 innovative research projects that have the potential to translate into clinical practice, benefit patients directly, or lay the groundwork for future large-scale studies. We’re encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, welcoming proposals from allied health professionals and researchers working in the following areas: 🔬 Early detection and diagnosis 💡 Novel treatment approaches 🏥 Addressing health inequalities 🌟 Improving patient experience and quality of life Applications are open until 6 December 2024, with successful projects announced in February 2025.
