For about the same length of time we have been sticking needles in prostate glands in a scavenger hunt looking for cancer cells. These approaches seem logical and have become the standard of care. But there is a problem, the current approach to diagnosing and treating prostate cancer has not been demonstrated to actually cure cancer, or even help men live longer. Researchers have used artificial intelligence to provide a ‘virtual biopsy’ for cancer patients, in a study funded by NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e7rzRbqc This non-invasive method can classify the type of lung cancer and if the cancer is likely to progress. Professor Eric Aboagye, from Imperial College London's department of surgery and cancer, said: “This research shows the potential of using CT scans to gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of tissue and tumour chemical composition, that has until now only been accessible through direct tissue sampling.
