  • GNA are pleased to announce the submission of a planning application for Study Inn’s latest student accommodation project. Situated in vibrant Edgbaston, this development is a short walk from Edgbaston Village, Five Ways train station, and the University of Birmingham campus, offering students excellent connectivity to amenities, education, and the wider city. The proposal on Frederick Road introduces circa 240 high-quality student rooms, with a mixture of social and studio style rooms. Residents will enjoy access to generous internal and external amenity spaces, including a gym, spa, and study spaces designed to create a balanced and supportive living environment. GNA collaborated closely with Study Inn to craft a design that thoughtfully integrates into Edgbaston’s unique historical context. Drawing inspiration from the modernist & regency styles of the area, the design makes a commitment to material honesty, clean proportions, and subtle ornamentation. This contemporary building reflects the character of the area while presenting a modern aesthetic that resonates with students and the community alike. #planning #birmingham #edgbaston #architecture  Study Inn Group

  • Throwback to our landmark project, The Bank—a transformative residential tower scheme on Birmingham’s iconic Broad Street. Fully completed in 2019, this dual-tower development was delivered in collaboration with RPGL, providing a vibrant mix of 1 to 3 bedroom apartments with stunning city views. Rising 21 and 33 storeys high, The Bank created a new city living offer and a marked the beginning of a new era of Birmingham’s now quickly evolving skyline. Our design integrates the story of the surrounding area, incorporating elements inspired by the district’s rich brass and silver working heritage. These towers stand proudly alongside the restored Grade II listed former Midland Bank, known locally as Left Bank, blending the old with the new to form a striking cityscape. In addition to luxury apartments, The Bank offers retail space and a range of resident amenities, including a communal kitchen and dining area for social gatherings, a secure urban garden, and a much-improved public realm. The project has achieved consistently high occupancy rates, becoming a thriving residential community. This project was honoured with the 2019 Sustainability Award and Project of the Year at the Celebrating Construction Awards, along with a Residential High-Rise accolade at the International Property Awards. The Bank remains a testament to Birmingham’s growth, blending legacy with a place for modern urban lifestyles while contributing to meeting the region’s housing needs. 14 of 20 - Part of our anniversary collection of 20 projects over 20 years. #GNA20 #tallbuildings #architecture #birmingham

  • Our Associate Director, Danni attended the grand opening of The Children’s Therapeutic Garden at Birmingham Hospice today. We are delighted to see the Garden take Shape. This will be a beautiful, sensory space for the well-being of patients and their families. It will also enable the Children’s team to provide interactive, playful spaces to support their important services. Danni contributed her time to initial idea sessions with the team, subsequent sketch designs and clearance of the previously under- utilised space, it’s amazing to see the end result. Thank you to everyone involved in the transformation of this wonderful garden. #garden #theraputic #sensoryplay #transformation #birmingham

  • GNA is reflecting on the successful creation of Herbert’s Yard, a versatile events space in Longbridge town centre. Designed for St Modwen and operated by the award-winning Digbeth Dining Club, this project marked their first permanent venue outside Birmingham, following seven years of pop-up events in Longbridge. Since opening, Herbert’s Yard has hosted year-round activities, including community-driven events like networking sessions and yoga. Named after Herbert Austin, the space was thoughtfully designed with sustainability at its core, using timber construction and energy-efficient LED lighting repurposed from the historic Car Assembly Building (CAB1). Positioned next to the enhanced Austin Park, it has become a flexible venue, adaptable for a variety of events and gatherings. In line with supporting local businesses, the venue partnered with Birmingham-based suppliers like Glass House Beer and Wine Freedom, offering diverse food options, including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free choices. Reflecting on the project, Harry Jenkins, Head of Marketing at Digbeth Dining Club, shared: “Herbert’s Yard has brought something truly unique to Longbridge and the wider West Midlands. It’s been incredible to see the community come together here through food and shared activities.” Since its opening, Herbert’s Yard has provided a valuable community resource, with its bar, deli, outdoor seating, and wildflower garden, offering a welcoming space for all. 13 of 20 - Part of our anniversary collection of 20 projects over 20 years. #westmidlands #streetfood #venue #architecture #reuse

  • We’re reflecting on our conservation and transformation of Horton Grange, in Edgbaston, Birmingham, originally built in 1928. This project completed in 2018 carefully restored the site’s heritage while enhancing it with considered contemporary intervention on the @unibirmingham estate. The thoughtful refurbishment and extension respected the history of the building while creating new spaces that blend effortlessly into the surrounding landscape. A striking rear extension, connected by a delicate glass link, enhances the sense of openness and light while maintaining the integrity of the original structure. Inside, the refurbishment has breathed new life into the space, with six beautifully designed bedrooms surrounding a grand staircase, as well as a series of modern meeting rooms, a bar, and a lounge on the ground floor—ideal for hosting unforgettable weddings and events. The design celebrates the building’s original features, with restored wood panelling and a grand fireplace bar, creating a welcoming and luxurious environment that honours its heritage. Horton Grange now stands as a perfect blend of history and modern elegance, making it an enchanting wedding venue where tradition meets sophistication. 12 of 20 - Part of our anniversary collection of 20 projects over 20 years. #conservation #heritage #historicbuildings #weddingvenue #architecture #birmingham #gna20
