🎆 The UK government decision to approve Rosebank, a vast new oilfield off Shetland, was ruled unlawful last month by the courts in Edinburgh. 📢 Climate experts and campaigners from Greenpeace and Uplift had battled the contentious decision since 2023. 🧑🎓 The courts declared the decision unlawful on the basis that the carbon emissions created by burning oil and gas produced by Rosebank and the smaller Jackdaw oilfield were not taken into account at the time of approval – a historic win. ⛽ Campaigners have argued that there is no UK economic, energy security, or climate rationale for drilling more oil and gas in the North Sea given that most of this oil is sold internationally. 🌍 The International Energy Agency has been clear that no new oil and gas exploration can take place if the world is to remain under 1.5 degrees of global warming, a scenario considered “safe”. 🏛️ The decision on Jackdaw and Rosebank will now return to the UK government, which has pledged not to grant any new licenses. #climatechange #netzero #sustainability #rosebankoilfield https://lnkd.in/eewE3tJV

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai (GLLM) is Wales’ largest further education institution. It covers nine campuses, employing 2,000 staff and providing vocational and educational skills for 21,000+ students.
