This year marks our tenth anniversary as proud supporters of FareShare UK. In that time, we have provided the equivalent of over one million meals and supported thousands of charities across the UK. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to ‘doing good’ and supporting our local communities. Reducing food waste is a key priority in our broader sustainability strategy - The Greggs Pledge - and we are proud to work alongside charities like FareShare to make a difference for those in need. Feeding the Nation with great tasting freshly prepared food.
About us
Greggs is a leading food-on-the-go retailer with over 2,400 shops nationwide and serving over six million customers a week. We stand for great tasting, freshly prepared food that our customers can trust, at affordable prices and aim to become the customers’ favourite for food-on-the-go. With ambitions to grow to over 3,0000 shops nationwide and ownership of our supply chain, we are in a unique position to make quality, freshly prepared food accessible to anyone, anywhere. Our supply network... is being reshaped to support growth and compete more effectively in the food-on-the-go market. We're investing in a major programme to support shop expansion substantially beyond 3,000 outlets in the UK. Our shops... are being refurbished and relocated in locations away from high streets such as retail and industrial parks, motorway service stations and travel hubs, to meet the demands of busy food-on-the-go customers. Our franchise model continues to offer opportunities for further growth in non-high street locations. Our product offer... is differentiated by the way we freshly prepare food in our shops each day and offer customers outstanding value for good quality, great tasting food-on-the-go, at any time of day. Today, The Greggs Foundation announced it had reached the significant 1,000 Breakfast Club milestone, meaning the programme now provides free nutritious breakfasts to over 75,000 schoolchildren across the UK every day. The first breakfast Club was launched in 1999 and over 25 years, the scheme has provided 90 million breakfasts to schoolchildren. The programme has been proven to make a huge difference to children’s engagement levels in the classroom. At Greggs plc, we’re proud to be part of The Greggs Foundation’s network of partners. We donate 1% of our pre-tax profits to The Greggs Foundation each year to help fund these initiatives and in 2023, our customers also donated over £650,000 through the Breakfast Club Appeals and products, such as 5p from every Jammy Heart Biscuit purchased. This morning, we published our third quarter trading update and are pleased to announce total sales increased 10.6%, with company managed like-for-like sales up 5%, underpinned by continued menu development, extended trading hours and new digital channels. So far this year, we have opened 152 new shops, growing our estate to 2,559 shops in total and we remain on track to open between 140 and 160 net new shops in 2024, as we continue to improve the quality of the estate as well as extending our reach. Our supply chain investments to support our ambitious growth plans are progressing well. We have completed the redevelopment of our Birmingham distribution centre and the extension of our Amesbury distribution centre, whilst the construction and planning of our manufacturing and logistics facilities in Derby and Kettering are progressing in line with our plans. As we continue to evolve our menu, we have launched a Pumpkin Spice Doughnut to our sweet range, complementing the return of our seasonal drinks range including the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Salted Caramel Latte which are both also available as part of our over ice range, now in 800 of our shops.
